Does anyone know where I can find a POI file for Apache Trail in AZ near Phoenix?

One POI in Phoenix, AZ - Attractions file

There is one "Apache Trail" POI in the Phoenix,AZ - Attractions file http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1839. It will put you on the correct (and only) road. From there, there is no other road so you won't get lost, all the way to the third lake (Roosevelt Lake). After you pass Tortilla Flat, it's unpaved. Watch the road, it's twisted and narrow at places, making crossing on-coming traffic difficult, in particular if you (or they) are pulling a boat or other trailer.

But above all, enjoy the view, it's simply fantastic. If you go in the Spring when the desert blooms, it's even more beautiful.

Thank You

A great drive!

If you're not too comfy with steep dropoffs right next to your vehicle, drive from Greater Phoenix towards the lake rather than towards Phoenix from the dam. The biggest use for a GPS here is to get yourself on the proper access streets--once on the trail, you can't get lost (short of falling from the cliff).

We did the trail

a few years ago and it was fantastic. Even saw an elk and a bunch of Arizona Desert Bighorn sheep.

Some Other Thoughts

If you go all the way to Roosevelt Lake (and Roosevelt Dam), you don't have to just double back on Apache Trail if you don't want to. From the dam, you can continue southeast towards Globe on State Highway 188, which unlike State Highway 88 (Apache Trail), is paved. Once in Globe, head west on US 60 back to Phoenix.

That's a pretty ride, too, especially between Globe and Superior. Some optional stops along the way are Tonto National Monument (http://www.nps.gov/tont/) and the Boyce Thompson Arboretum (http://ag.arizona.edu/bta/). Spending time at both of those along with the Apache Trail drive will make for a very full day.
