Nuvi 760 Seems Slow

I have noticed that sometimes my 760 will not show me passing roads untill I have acctualy passed them by several hundred feet. Whats wierd is that sometimes I will pass the exact same roads at the exact same time the GPS shows it. Anyone have an idea on what might be the cause of this???

Try turning the unit on and

Try turning the unit on and pressing the corner of the screen to perform a master reset. The diagnostics menu comes up then reset everything. I had a problem with mine until I reset it. Then mine was more accurate and found the satellite faster.

Accuracy Error?

Tossing out a theory here. If you're using the built in antenna and the GPS isn't in a location with a clear sky view there may be issues with accuracy.

When the unit appears to be lagging, check the satellite screen (press and hold the sat strength bars in the upper left corner of the main screen to access the page) to see if your unit is accurate to just a few feet or whether it's a lot further.

Depending where the GPS is mounted you might benefit from a remote antenna.

Cheers wink

Do a search to find this topic.
Check your firmware, if this is a new unit. Garmin just released a new ver.
Run webupdater to install.

I have updated the firmware

I have updated the firmware already. I wonder if it has anything to do with the weather. We have had lots of rain the past few days. When I check my accuracy, it ranges from 15 to 45 feet.

The reset helped me earlier

The reset helped me earlier in the year. 4.2 made the delay come back, but 4.6 helped

Weather

It very well could be weather related. My 350 was slow to update Sunday morning. The sky was heavily overcast with some light rain. It took a very long time to acquire satellites, then a few seconds to update locations. When I got out of the weather, it speeded up. My company has 20 760s (in our service trucks). I have not heard any complaints about slowness from our drivers.

I have the same issue

I have the same issue.. NUVI 760 with 2010 maps and 4.80 software. I did the reset thing after installing 4.80 BUT it didnt help... any ideas???

I have the same unit. The weather makes it slower for me to get first fix on satellites - but once it is fixed the accuracy is very good.

I have the same unit, but see slowness differently.

But not the issue. I have the Nuvi 760 with 2010 maps and 4.8o software. The satellites are slow to acquire if the unit has been in the garage, or blocked from reception for a period of time. Once the unit acquires the satellites, responsiveness appears to be good. I hadn't thought about it much, but the unit does seem slow to respond if I make a 90 degree turn. I don't think that would be the satellites, but rather the processing power of the unit.

RESET EVERYTHING?

What do you mean "reset everything"?? I don't see anything to be reseted...please advise, thanks:

.

The proper procedure to do a "Clear all user data" or hard reset is to start with the unit off. Press and hold the bottom-right corner of the screen, then power the unit on. Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt screen appears. This procedure is know to *sometimes* delete all your favorites so back them up just in case:

On the nuvi, copy x:/Garmin/GPX/current.gpx to your backup foler. To restore the favorites, copy the file back to the nuvi but rename it to temp.gpx. On the next reboot, the favorites will be read into the nuvi's memory. The file on the nuvi is only a backup. The favorites are actully stored in a non user-accessible memory area on the nuvi.

WELL

I did the reset thing again and still nothing.. what do I do.. DOES everyone who has a 760 have the slow map refresh? IE - you make a turn and then a few seconds later you see the car turn or you pass a street but the map on screen shows its up farther and you have already passed. GARMIN says I have somethng wrong and to send it in to them BUT I want to know if others have this issue and if they do, and have resolved it... HOW?

Slow response

I have a 750, which is a 760 without Bluetooth,
running 4.8. I don't have any problems with my unit, it seems to be only a little behind at worst. I will be in the intersection when the GPS shows me entering while traveling at about 60 mph.

Do what Garmin says, send it back to them and let them fix it.

Well

it seems yours is doing what MINE does.. so, maybe here is NOTHING wrong. Whem you make a turn does the screen move in real time or does it show the TURN AFTER you are done and one the road going straight?

Also

Also I notice that sometimes I get 30 or less feet and sometimes I get 10-12 feet. is that normal for the GPS? I also tried with an EXTERNAL AMPLIFIED ANTENNA with the same results...

I did another HARD RESET so we will see tomorrow what happens.. I also had it on MOST DETAIL...

TODAY

Today, since the reset AGAIN and since setting the detail on MORE instead of MOST it seems perfect.. although the turns are a little show

AH!!!

OK I think I have something figured out.. IF I ZOOM all the way in, I see the LAG.. if I zoom out 3 TIMES which is where I like to see the MAP, the lag is there. If I ZOOM OUT 4 times, the LAG is gone! I think this unit has an issue with too much detail and real time movement (or close to it). It didnt matter what type of MAP detail I had the unit set for...

Can someone else who has the LAG on the 760 try this and let me know what your results are? If its the same for everyone, then I think we need to ask GARMIN whats going on with the unit.. I did add a bunch of custom POIs and PROX Alerts..

Discontinued

dahauss - keep in mind that the 7x0 series has been discontinued so there is little chance that Garmin will issue any further fixes for the series.

Screen watching

I'm a bit amazed that folks are spending their time watching the screen update rather than watching where they're driving! If my 760 has the lag I've never noticed it but then I watch my driving rather than the nüvi screen..........

I keep mine at the default,

I keep mine at the default, which is 800ft. This is 5 clicks out from fully zoomed in. At 58mph it zooms out to 1.5m.

When routing, it zooms in to the turns, and using Most Detail, I don't see any lag at all.

Of course, I don't take turns at 100mph, so if there is any lag, it's minimal.

OK

as I said I am at 4X out from zoomed all the way in. I NOW dont notice LAG. ON my C550 I could zoom out 2 or 3 times with NO LAG....

I'll keep an eye on my unit...

Welll

Been using it at 4x out and it seems fine... Garmin says they know about the issue but dont know if there will be a fix...

Same issue on Nuvi 680

I have the same issue on my Nui 680 but not on my Nuvi 660. You would think the two should be the same.

WELL

I just have to hope GARMIN fixes this issue... they seem to think I need to mail my unit in but fail to see what I keep sending them in the forum links that lots of people have this issue....

Nuvi 760 screen update slow

Nuvi screen updates every 10-12 seconds when I have a route set, the screen updates every 1-2 seconds when I don't have a route set. In a congested environment the update speed becomes a real issue. I began to notice that I would pass the road to be turned on and the map would be way off. It would eventually catch up but too late. And to a previous poster, Guilty - I do look at my GPS screen while driving. Latest software and maps installed. I'll try the reset next. Thanks for the favorites backup suggestion.
Update -- Backed up the Favorites, performed a reset of user data, everything fine now. Screen updates every 1-2 seconds with a route set. Restored my Favorites. All is well.
