How to create a personal boot-up splash screen?

After inputting a 4-digit password security code, how does one then go about creating a customized boot-up splash screen with text that says "Property of John Doe" (no last name - for your protection) with an email address, cell phone number and "Reward for Return of GPS"?

Easy Way

This is what I do. When the Nuvi is attached to the computer you should see a pictures folder. In it should be your images, usually 1-8 or something. I just copy one of them to my pc, edit it in paint and save it with a different name. Then copy it back to the nuvi. (Make sure you copy, and change the name so you still have the original if you want to sell it or make a new screen later).

Now boot your nuvi, go to your picture view and select your new image. On the top of your screen should be a box to check - set as boot picture.

Try it and see.

The gimp

I used the "gimp" image program to create my splash screen. The gimp is available for assorted operating systems (I first used it in Linux, but also use it in Windows). www.gimp.org

I included "Tracking Enabled" in red on my 750 to make people think twice about keeping it. Well it does auto track, but not that I could tell remotely without recovering the unit.

I used MS Paint to put my name and phone # in the appropriate places. Scroll through the album for others.

Nice Idea

I like the idea of fooling would be criminals about the tracking enabled.

Great idea!

This thread is great!

Autotracking while locked?

Somewhat OOT: I understand it starts determining the location as soon as satellites are acquired (how else would it determine the proximity of the safety location), but does the unit really record the breadcrumbs before entering the PIN number?

I like this webpage

Wow, what a cool webpage, phranc. Thanks! Is that yours?

Some very interesting tidbits in there. I hadn't thought of programming HOME to be somewhere other than HOME, an address that isn't found anywhere in the car. Of course, since half the time, my Nuvi doesn't recognize that it's HOME even when it is HOME, it may not be necessary for me!

No, that's Gary Hayman's page. There's lots to be learned there, no matter what model you have.
