Broke The Speaker? (Nuvi 760)

Here's one I don't recall seeing before. I was using the 760 in my wife's car today so it wasn't connected to the car stereo. A ways into my journey Karen sounded like she was getting a sore throat then she came down with total laryngitis. I couldn't get voice, couldn't get a beep nada. Everything else was working fine. Once home again I plugged the GPS back into my car audio and it sounds normal.

I surmise I have, somehow, destroyed the speaker inside the unit. No biggie, it's under warranty but has anyone heard of this happening before?

Cheers smile

The speaker wire became disconnected.

Bluetooth?

Sometimes after using Bluetooth, my unit totally loses sound through the speaker. Turning the unit off and back on fixes it. I'm wondering if this is what might have happened to you?

Are you using the 760

Are you using the 760 through the FM channel? That can be done yes?

Not using FM

No, I normally use the audio out plug connected to my car radio. I tried the FM once and the quality was too poor to bother with so turned it off.

Audio is working fine via the headset/speaker jack. The built in speaker just seems to be kaput. I've now seen other posts on this forum from owners who've had the same thing happen so maybe it's a common issue with Garmin Nuvi models.

I'll get it repaired under warranty. Thanks for the suggestion!

That if you send your nuvi to Garmin for repairs, they will send you a refurbished unit back. You will not get back the same unit.
I would take the back off and check the speaker wire. Pretty easy to do. If the wire was disconnected, plug it back in. If not, then send it in.

Warranty

Wouldn't taking the back off the unit void the warranty? Not to mention, even if it didn't void the warranty, by taking it apart you risk breaking something else and voiding the warranty. I would just send it in and not mess with taking it apart. Just my two cents.

Thanks For Responses

I e-mailed Garmin support Saturday detailing the problem and received a reply early Sunday. They've issued a return authorization number and say once the unit is received they'll check it out and if necessary send a replacement within a week. Once again, Garmin scores big in the service department.

I've backed up everything on this 760 so should be able to easily reload a replacement when it arrives. Meanwhile it's back to the ol' tried and true 660.

Cheers wink
