How to upload icon

How about this technology, heh? I have owned a C330 for a little over 3 years and have loved it (99.6% of the time). The occasional "recalculating" at the wrong time would tear at my nerves but overall it has been a rock-solid workhorse.

Today, Santa brought me a new nuvi 260W and I have been toying with it all afternoon and this evening. I came across this website an hour or so ago and am grateful it is here. What a wonderful source for the users!

So, I downloaded a few POI files and have been able to upload them to the nuvi successfully. I am on the road for my job 3 out of every 4 weeks so some of these are going to come in very handy. One of the files I downloaded was the Wawa Stores file.

I also downloaded the icon but that's where I'm stuck. I have read the owners manual over and over. I have also looked at the files on the unit itself and I can find where I would load this icon file. Also, is there some way the icon is automatically placed on the map or must I "change the icon" each time after I learn how to upload it?

Thanks in advance for any help, and I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

The secret is on the matching name

This is covered in other threads in detail, but in a nutshell, the key is for the icon (xxx.bmp) file to be called "exactly" the same as the POI file, except for the file extension, which would be .bmp instead of .csv or .gpx.

Just note that it won't work if there is a slight difference in the file name.

The recommended size for the icon .bmp is 24x24 pixels, should be 8 bit color, and perfect magenta (red 255, Green 0, blue 255) is used for transparency.

I am guessing you have a typo in your post and you meant to say you can't figure out where to put the icon file. As LS said, it must be named the same as the associated POI file (except for the extension) and it must be put in the same folder on the computer as the POI file. POI Loader will then incorporate both into the POI.gpi file that it loads to the unit or card. You should try reading the Getting Started and FAQ links at the top of the page.
