Nuvi freezes when booting up and a POI is nearby

If I'm in a parking lot with a POI nearby (i.e. Starbucks), and I start my car, which powers up my Nuvi, a lot of the time the Nuvi will freeze. I'll get a notification that a POI is nearby, then there is no additional response from the Nuvi. I'll have to reboot it.

Anyone else experience this? FYI, this is a Nuvi 770.

Check for updates

I had the same problem with the 750, which was fixed with an update....however while one thing was fixed, another was broken, so it is a trade off.

I've had that problem before

I've had that problem before with my 660 and found out that the POI was corrupted. Suggest you remove that POI and d/l a fresh copy to see if that fixes your problem

I had this problem with a nuvi 750 and firmware version 3.0 or 3.1. This problem was fixed in 4.2 but that version is causing other minor annoyances.

What version of firmware are you using?

OK, I'll ask ...

Please tell, what "other minor annoyances"?

Annoyances with 4.2

Two that I am aware of are the delay at startup in "Loading Maps" and a problem when routes have 10 or more via points.

Nuvi Freezes up

Might try simplifying the software by language non tts and avoidances then switch on one at a time to see if that helps. My Nuvi 270 has been no problem.

Firmware 4.20 fixes the freeze problem

Firmware 4.20 fixes the freeze problem you describe. The only problem with 4.20 that I'm aware of is the route optimization problem that Garmin is aware of. They have a fix for that and it is in the final testing stage.

Garmin Drive Smart 55 - Samsung Note 10 Smartphone with Google Maps & HERE Apps

I'm using firmware 3.20

I haven't upgraded because of all the issues with some previous updates. Has this mess settled down enough to warrant an upgrade?

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
