Rest Stop POI Added

I followed the instructions on how to add the rest stops and walmart POIs, and the software told me it was successful. Now, how do I see those POIs on the garmin itself? Do I search for "walmart" or "rest stop" on the garmin POIs?

I wanted to see if the .bmp icons were uploaded and working as well. Thx.

To see the list of them, if you have the "where to?", go to "extras" and then "custom POIs". You should find your lists there.

Do in the 2-D map mode and zoom all the way in (actually, it works if you backed off the zoom by 1 step). Garmin Nuvi displays all POI only in the zoomed-in mode in 2-D map. It also shows only the custom POI in the 3-D map mode if you get within the alert distance from them.

They don't want to clutter up the screen when you are driving.

Found it, thanks. When I browsed through the custom POI list, specifically for my walmart and rest stops, the title of each point seems random and really doesnt make sense to me. Is it good practice to make the like POIs titled the same?

Lastly, when Im on my trip and decide I need to locate the nearest rest stop while enroute, how do i locate a rest stop "on-the-fly"? (or any POI for that matter).

Thanks.

When you are riding down the road touch custom pois then all categories then touch all categories again and you will see a combination of all your pois based on the closest ones to you. Also you can select one category and again will show the closest to you.Other then that you can set up alarms using manual mode in poiloader.Remember the alarms will only alert you in most cases if you are driving on the same road where the coordinates are located. The rest stop coordinates are located at the road entrance so alert works good with them.

Individual POIs should have different names

Since you will see a separate heading for under Custom POIs for Walmart and Rest Stops, you select the one you are looking for and will find the 50 closest to your location. If they all have the same name, that will not be helpful i.e. all saying Walmart.

I downloaded the files, ran the POI loader, then when I do this:

"To see the list of them, if you have the "where to?", go to "extras" and then "custom POIs". You should find your lists there."

I see it works great.
