Accessing custom POIs on Nuvi 780

I have loaded custom POIs created by GeePeeEx as .gpx files but I do not see a menu to use the file. How do I actually run the file?

The first question is "How did you load them?"

If you used the POI Loader, then they are under "Where To" and "Extras"

Finding POIs

Right you are A-user, I did find them there. I used the Garmin Up Loader program. When I open the POI file, I see the individual way-points, how do I invoke the file, I don't want to drive to each location, but I do want the alerts to come on as programmed. I have read all I can find but implementing features is difficult to determine from instructions. Thanks for your help.

I'm not certain what you mean by "invoke the file." If you mean have the unit issue an alert, you need to reload the POI using the manual mode. In manual you can set an alert based on either speed or distance. This way if a POI is along your route of travel you will receive an alert when you are within the alert range. The unit decides a POI is "along the route of travel" if it is somewhere between the center of the road and 50 or so feet on either side.

Just displaying your current position as you drive will be enough for the alert to trigger.

I was under the impression

I was under the impression that you could choose which custom POIs the unit would use. My test custom POI did run as expected, It appears all loaded custom POIs just sitting there waiting t be executed “invoked” when the unit is within range of the coordinates. I am most interested in school zones and other areas where speed needs to be reduced for some safety reason. I always try to stay in the speed limit but sometimes forget about those school zones. Next I need to look into creating TourGuides and using an SD card. Again, thanks for your help.
