Favorites with an address

How can I add an address to a favorite that I saved by clciking on the map. I woudl liek to add an address like other favorites have.

Need to know the model

Need to know the model number of your Garmin to tell you the answer.

On newer models, you can select a FAVORITE as a goto ... and before hitting "Go", one of the prompts below is "edit" to add address, phone number etc.

On old models, I don't think there is a way ... at least not on my old I5

place to add number but not address

Download EasyGPS to your

Download EasyGPS to your computer. Hook your GPS to usb port. Open EasyGPS and open your current.gpx file listing your favorites. Select each favorite you want to update or add information. Save the updated file and you will see the changes on your favorites after unhooking your GPS from the computer. You can add address, phone numbers and do a lot of changes.

Why not just create a favorite using the address? On the GPS, make a new favorite by putting in the address then saving it before hitting "Go."

If you're intent on modifying a current favorite... or, if the address isn't exactly where the loaction actually is. I know a "way" with MapSource. But it still requires you to make the favorite using the address.

Once you have a favorite with the address, go into MapSource and download the data FROM the device.

When you see all the points, go to the correct way point and copy it's coordinate data... you'll actually end up copying a LOT more but it's fine.

then go to the address way point you created and paste it in there. delete all the stuff you pasted before the coordinate.

The thing about this is... MapSource does not modify current favorites on the GPS... so, when you upload it back to the GPS, it'll tag "001" to the name, if the exact name exists on GPS. You can do one of two things, go to the GPS and delete the original before uploading the modified way points... or upload it, delete the original THEN rename the new one from "XYZ 001" to "XYZ".

When I did my corrections, I didn't have a "correct" address saved as a favorite, I found the track data and used the one at the correct location...

That's because "bpa5152" has a Nüvi 350, which reads the <cmt> field of the .gpx used to transfer Favourites. Other than the 3xx range, this is not usual. Easygps doesn't provide access to the Garmin Address/phone/email extension area.

So instead, you could:-

  • Download the trial version of GeePeeEx Editor from arrow http://GeePeeEx.com/downloadlinks
  • Plug Nüvi in and do "Import Favourites...".
  • Type the required additions into the Address & Phone number boxes.
  • "Export as Favourites".
  • Reboot Nüvi.

Why not just create a favorite using the address? .....

I'm fighting with what I think is the same problem. Let me state it a different way:

I put in a friend's address into my Nuvi and made a favorite for him. When I drove to his place with the nuvi, it found the street, but told me I was at my destination quite a distance from his house (the completely other end of the street a few blocks away).

I went to his house, tapped the car icon and saved it as a favorite. I later moved this favorite into the address book, could give it a phone number, but there seems to be no way to give it an address (same problem as originally reported).

So how can I have one favorite with all correct information? The nuvi doesn't seem to have any way to edit the coordinates on the favorite that it looked up incorrectly. (the "set location" button seems to be only for telling the gps to use a point as the current location in simulation mode unless I've missed something). And, as already has been pointed out, we don't get to add an address if we just save favorite coordinates from the map screen.

There really should be a way to do both, but I can't find one. However, lots of stuff is pretty hidden in the nuvi, so I'm still hopeful that this can be done.

Yeah, unfortunately you don't seem to be able to add and address to a Favorite.

Here's what I do.

Save the Favorite by entering the address. This gets the address into the Favorite.

Then save a second Favorite by touching the vehicle icon at the actual location.

Then send the information from the unit to MapSource.

Then (without changing any of the other information), copy and paste the coordinates from the CORRECT location into the coordinates field for the Favorite with the address.

Then delete the original Favorites from the unit and send then corrected Favorite back to the unit.

It's not as long of a work around as it sounds.

Can do the same with GeePeeEx Editor

Save a location using the car icon or Where Am I function.
Import Favorites into GeePeeEx.
Add address, phone, comments as desired.
Export to Favorites.
On the Nuvi, delete the original entry.
If you have a Bluetooth-enabled unit, this Favorite will have a dialable phone number.

Awesome!

I like this approach the best and very easy! Why pay for other programs that look dificult to use when this can be used for free.

Thanks!!

The Favourite management functions in GeePeeEx Editor are available in the Trial version. No payment is necessary to use them.

As for why, that will be answered if you try the program, but as far as looking difficult to use, I'm sure you'll find nothing could be further from the truth. Make your life easy.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Thanks all but....

I'll stick with mapsource approach for now very easy and completly FREE!

Another tool that works well

Another tool that works great to edit Favorites is the Extra_POI_Editor from turboccc.
