Nuvi 760 - Why the need to import routes?

So I create a route using MapSource and upload them to the GPS. While it would seem simple enough, they're not listed because I haven't "imported" them. Heck, my 2720 is smart enough to know if I upload them I want them.

There must be some method to the madness. IIRC, the unit will only store 10 routes. Does this enhancement allow me to upload 30 routes in memory while maintaining 10 so I can swap back and forth?.

It appears to me it's just another step buried in the menu's that isn't intuitive. Why not just put the import function into the route menu?

It's probably been covered here before but I didn't find an answer after doing a search.

Sorry, just venting.

.

When the routes are sent to the unit (either from MapSource or MapQuest), they are stored in a temporary storage area in a GPX file which can be located on the unit or on the SD card. But this data isn't read into the Routes area of the unit automatically.

The data must be manually selected and chosen for importing by the user. This then imports the data to the memory area that is not accessible to the user but is accessible to the unit.

And the answer to your question about the 10 route limit is "Yes". You could store additional routes that are not import and switch them in and out which would allow you to carry more routes if you have that need.

Thanks

Thanks WW,

I guess my mindset was more in line with....I don't have to import waypoints so why do I have to import routes?

Anyway, the answer is not important as it's more frustrating to the wife (the owner and new user) than I.

I do believe though the route import function would be better served if included in the Route menu.
