What isn't these days? My friend up in Toronto bought one, and while he is not a gadget freak like me, he says it does the job for him. Me? I will stick with my Garmin.

After looking at the extremely brief manual online which doesn't even list media formats, etc., and the FAQ in broken english, I think I'd be safer with a name brand.

no one brand is right for everyone

Sounds an awful lot like "My choice must be best for everyone". I have no knowledge of this "Freeway" device and I do doubt that it is any nicer than the Garmin, but although I'm a Garmin owner, I'm not convinced that it was a smarter choice than a Tom Tom would have been. And I can't rule out other brands I've seen either, saw one today that has TTS and MP3 playback at the same price as I paid last month for my nuvi without either feature.

Garmin may be a good choice for some people, particularly if you don't care about cost and buy the top end and don't care about paying top dollar to update the maps yearly and can ignore the fact that the "new" maps are 2-3 years out of date on the day that you get them, but no one GPS or GPS brand is right for everyone.

I just got one.

Hello,

I just got one on sale for $69. For all the features of this model, and using it a couple of times, it's pretty accurate and easy to use. I just wanted to ask if anyone knows if it already has USA/Worldwide maps built into it? On the box it clearly says "Preloaded Canada Maps".

According to one person who posted that has one, the USA maps are on it, although a recalibration is needed, when you enter a new country?

Can anyone confirm this? When I first turned on mine, it actually was positioned in a USA map point as a stock starting position.

I know that this is available for purchase online.

Thanks for any help.

Freeway GPS

I read the same thing as you And I think that`s all you do . The freeway is very easy to calibrate. The split screen feature is great to. Both my sons have gps`s 1 has a Garmin & the other has a Jensen. They said the Freeway works just as well as there`s . I think Freeway is a new company but not sure.

There is a newer release

There is a newer release now.

They have a 2009 release.
They have Text to speech as well.

You can also add in your POI with the navutil program.

1 of these days someone should make a right up about this. with screen shots..

I don't trust it!....You

I don't trust it!....You might buy one and find out 2 months later that the touch screen contains dangerous amounts of lead and have to destroy it or die of lead poisoning! (BG)

Your Portion Of Light Whether you are a brilliant flame or but a tiny spark matters not-for the world needs whatever portion of light is yours to give.

I never heard of that one

I wonder if it is a new manufacturer or someone just slapped a proprietary name on another manufacturers unit.

puckguy , I think your right , Got mine 5 months ago and it works like a charm . Hasn`t let me down yet and the features are great.

Interesting Corporate Profile

Did anyone read the corporate news? It reads like a tiny snapshot of the company and I recognize some of the names from my past life with an auto mfr.

I think they primarily did the software and a few of the hardware bits in the past. I recognize some basic screen & unit features from older Clarion & Rosen OEM auto gps units.

But the most interesting news item is the one that announces Tom Tom's acquisition of their patent portfolio in 2007.

Not sure I'd blow them off just yet.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

Yes, I prefer US brand too. Their POI alerts which banks have too much subprime loans, what companies' top executives receive outrageous bonus...etc.

may be not

Garmin fan

I would still stay with Garmin. I bought two unknown brand GPS's from Futureshop when I first was interested in getting a GPS. I took the first one back because it kept loosing lock on the sats. The replacement one wasn't any better. Garmin has been very, very good to me.

Map updates

Be sure to check cost of map updates!

Value to the Dollar

It is not fair to compare units with significant price difference. We likely get what we paid for, but low cost units are also less likely over priced.

lost so much money
