765T rebooted on it's own

anyone here have a new 765T?

or perhaps experienced your nuvi rebooting itself while in operation in the cradle while driving?

mine has done it three times, in the little over three weeks that I have owned it, though not within the last week.

and I am not referring to it rebooting following an update of any kind while attached to my PC with the USB cable...this happened while driving.

at first I thought it might be a bug in the unit's firmware and how it dealt with a TourGuide alert, as it seemed to happen when I arrived at the TourGuide coordinates, and while I was within the TourGuide radius.

but now I think it might have been related to a route that I tried to send it from Mapsource, which I don't really know how to use yet (any tip on a good tutorial would be great)

I wonder if the route may have been corrupt, since I have since deleted that route, and I have not experienced the reboot since.

still too early to tell if it will occur again.

any thoughts?

It is possible to create a "bad" route

I have the 760 and have experienced the same thing. It IS possible to build a route in MapSource that will crash the Nuvi. The thread below went on and on as several of us experimented with settings and methodologies of using MapSource to create routes. You might find it educational.

The bottom line was: you should always start and end your routes with a defined Waypoint, not just by "drawing" on the map with MapSource. And in my case I was using MapSource with 2009 maps, but downloading the route to a 760 that had 2008 maps.

thanks for the

thanks for the confirmation...makes me feel a lot better that it wasn't a problem with my 765T.

Mine crashed while displaying the map...

Mine crashed while displaying the map. Took a while to get it to reboot.
It was on external power.

It may be just coincidence, but this has only happened with the latest software.

hmmm....maybe a firmware update is in our future after all

if there is, I am gonna wait until after the Christmas holiday, as I will need my 765T for a trip to South Carolina, and I have read about the firmware update for some of the other nuvi models, causing some trouble in the past.

when it happened to me, it started itself back up right away, and I think even resumed the route.

I will keep an eye on it's behavior, and see if the possibly corrupt route was my problem, or if the factory firmware does indeed need updated

Nüvi 765T rebooted on it's own

Baught on mid-decembre 08, my Nüvi 765T is back to factory:

it rebooted on it's own, arriving at destination, waypoint or not

it crashes when calculating most itinerary involving more than 4 waypoints, uploaded from PC or entered by touchscreen

the PC (W2K-SP4) displays an "I/O error on USB connection" when trying to update the internal software (Version 2.5) through WebUpdater.
Fortunately, it also happened at the dealer's store.
It is not a cable or PC problem as my Colorado300, connected with the same cable to the same PC doesn't exhibit that problem.

I'm very disapointed by this device

It happens all the time

Since I use my unit everyday for extended periods, I see it happening just about on a daily basis.

It happens when you have the unit sit in the mount too long. Worst case is it won't reboot. The problem usually takes care of itself once you remount it, but in all cases the worst fix is you will need to take the unit off of the mount and do a 10-second soft-reboot.

I have reported this issue since Dec, but they do not know any "issues" that can cause this.

My 880 as stated in the 800

My 880 as stated in the 800 section, mine use to reboot all the time until I sent it back to Garmin, now it reboots about once or twice a week, and I guess I just got used to it. But my previous 660 or 880 never had this issue, it seems in the latest release of these nuvi's, this problem has become a normal thing.

Seems similar to Streets and

Seems similar to Streets and Trips bug as well.

I was a big fan of MS Streets & Trips in 2005 / 6/ 7.

But the software started to crash randomly. Whenever I entered a trip that was more than 50 miles, randomly the software would just get stuck in "think" mode and never finish.
