Trick or Walkaround for Recalculating

I have a nuvi 750 using mapquest to plan routes. Using UNFlag to take out all the via points. Got tired of hearing all the announcements. When you stray from the route it recalculates a new route. I then have to reload my route and start again. Does anyone know of a better way. I have a tendency to stray from my routes and it's a little work to reset the route on a motorcycle going down the highway.

.

If you add more waypoints when you are creating the route, it will help "force" it to go where you want. Otherwise, the the unit will recalculate the route according to it's own settings.

Doing a test ride

I have route with and without the via flags. Going to start out with the flagged route with navigation sound off. Going to go off route and see what happens. I am determined to make this work for my purpose...What can I say I'm stubborn. Thanks

Don't have to reload

We took a very long road trip last summer using a saved Route in my 760. We deviated from the route a few times. A couple things I was able to determine:

If you just stop the route and re-start it, the route will not be re-written. This is pretty safe, but it's a little lame that it might recalculate if you have strayed too far off the route. As long as you don't insert or delete something, you can just stop and restart the route and you'll be OK.

If you leave the route by a large distance, it might recalculate when you want to rejoin the original route. What worked pretty well for us when we decided to take a significant side trip was to stop the route, save the current location and then just do a Where To to direct us to the side trip location. To get back to where we left the route, I would just Where To my saved location. Then I would select the route again.

We learned the hard way that inserting a via to a restaurant for lunch practically wipes out the original route.

Reload/Re-start Route

I think we are talking about the same process are we not? ie Where To>Routes>(select route)>Go. A recalculation only affects the "Current route" as seen in the Routes area only while actively navigating, which is why the Reload/Re-start process using the original route works (ie we are not talking about re-importing, re-creating or re-transferring a route). I used MapSource to pre-plan and save over 60 routes on my 750 for our 2 1/2 month 10,000 mile trip this summer and found the only reliable way to prevent route changes on recalculation was to use waypoints (not vias) and, even then, I detected several relatively minor route changes in the Nuvi after a recalculate (most likely due to the different routing algorithms in the Nuvi versus MapSource. This can be corrected in the pre-planning stage by comparing recalculated routes and adding even more waypoints (if one wants to go to this much effort. In some cases following a pre-planned route exactly might be important). To possibly minimize the issue of having route shaping "via" points announced, it has been suggested to name the points to something more useful such as "X miles to Y" etc etc.
