Blackberry Storm

I understand, but havnot seen, that the new Verizon Blackberry Storm has vz navigator installed. Does this mean that it already is considered a gpsr and doesn't need any subscription or add on.
Thanks for any help provided.

You have two choices, either $9.99 a month or $2.99 a day

I have the Verizon LG voyager and that also has vz navigator already installed. You have two choices. You can subscribe for as I remember either $9.99 a month or $2.99 a day whenever you want to use it.

How do you like the Storm?

How do you like the Storm?

My wife wants one but you are required to get internet service for Blackberry's and she doesn't really need it.

How do you like the Storm?

I like it very much, but if she doesn't need internet service, why not go with the LG Dare. My wife and daughter just went with this phone, without internet service and they both love it. My wife has not put this phone down since she got it.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any further information.

It seems to me like RIM did not deliver a polished product.

Check out this review, from the New York Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/27/technology/personaltech/27...

With that in mind, I'll consider one until they come up with a third generation, and hopefully not tied to Verizon.

I don't have one, so I don't know, but there's comprehensive user reviews at: http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/user_reviews.php?phone=1864

Just saw RIM put out an update for the VZ Storm to correct problems. I don't have any details, I just saw the headline on Yahoo!

Is your not stuck using the built in software. I use Garmins Lifetime on m BB8330. But after playing with a free GPS maps program called Amaze, I think I may have waisted $100 with Garmin.

Verizon Unlocked GPS Last Year

I've been using GPS without a VZ Navigator Subscription. Verizon unlocked the GPS capability late last year. It is compatible with BB Maps not Google Maps for now.

No need to subscribe.

Amen to that

Thank you for the update on Verizon unlocking GPS capability. I had read that they were going to do it, but it wasn't clear to me when or which handsets. Is it ALL of their handsets? The reason I ask is because I may be interested in buying a used CDMA smartphone and using Garmin Mobile on it. I would probably subscribe to some airtime from Page Plus Cellular, but I wouldn't get a data plan. I have read that the Blackberry Storm is the only touchscreen Blackberry, so it might be a very nice CDMA smartphone for Garmin Mobile.

Debating

I'm debating on this one.

VZ Navigator

Just remember the size of the GPS screen and the size of the screen of any of the phones. Even my Voyager is small. Now try to watch that while driving. What holder will you use? Volumn is very low. What do you use when you are out of Verizon range and are roaming and can not connect. All these things convinced me to quite using Navigator on my enV 2 and buy a Nuvi a year ago.

Make sure you read some user reviews on the Storm, it gets mixed reviews at best. If you want a CDMA smartphone, I think you are better off waiting on Verizon to get the Blackberry Bold in June. If you really want a touchscreen, I don't have any suggestions besides the IPhone.

I like the Blackberry GPS

But use it for directions? I do have a mount for the car, and a cord that plugs into my radio so I can hear it better. But the screen if a little small to go too far. I use it for the times I need to find something and the GPS is at home. And I bought the Garmin Lifetime maps before I found Amazegps.

Blackberry GPS

Just to expound on this a little bit further, I bought a used Pharos GPS Phone a couple of months back. It is GSM (T-Mobile or AT&T). I bought this because I wanted to bring something with me when I ride my ATV that would work as a cell phone and a GPS without paying a monthly fee for GPS. That is why I Went with Garmin Mobile XT. It came with a windshield mount. It works very well. I do have a Garmin StreetPilot 2730 as my primary GPS. I like the Pharos GPS Phone 600 so well that I now want a smartphone that works on CDMA (Verizon or Sprint). I prefer a touch screen. Since I have a "dumb" phone through work, which is a Nextel, I just want a used phone that is CDMA and will work with Garmin Mobile XT. For airtime I will likely just get a small amount of airtime from Page Plus Cellular. I looks like a used Blackberry Storm would work for that.

In a since I am looking for something similar to the Garmin Nuvifone. The Pharos GPS Phone 600 with Garmin Mobile XT is essentially similar to the Nivifone. Maybe I should say that with a Blackberry Storm it might be sort of like a CDMA version of the Garmin Nuvifone!

Non-Blackberry CDMA Smartphone

Oh, that is good to know. So Garmin Mobile XT loads maps onto the device, but Garmin Mobile Blackberry works differently then? I will re-focus on getting a non-Blackberry CDMA smartphone that works with Garmin Mobile XT then. The list here shows a number of devices, but I just have to figure out which of them, if any, are CDMA phones. It looks at first glance if most, may all, are GSM devices.
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=11413#specsTab

After looking through this
https://my.garmin.com/gmbg/start.faces it looks like possibly the following two devices might be CDMA smartphones compatible with Garmin Mobile XT and would work without a data plan.

HTC Touch Pro
Palm Treo 800W

Of the two, I think I may concentrate on the HTC Touch Pro. It looks like it still gets a pretty good price on Ebay yet, but like many things electronic, the price will eventually come down.

Google Map supports Blackberry Storm

DrewDT wrote:

Not exactly true. Google Maps support the Blackberry Storm using the built-in GPS with their latest version.

http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2009/02/google-maps-on-veri...

Ah yes

It looks like Verizon made it compatible for the Storm only a few weeks ago but not its other Blackberry phones.
