Updated Bluetooth 3.40 firmware available for Nuvi 7XX series

Updated Bluetooth 3.40 available on Garmin WebUpdater for Garmin 7XX series. Everything seems to work fine but remember you have to pair the phone and the Nuvi again after doing the update. Mine was working fine but thought maybe I would see something added but nothing I have noted yet.

Changes from version 3.10 to version 3.40:
Made general improvements in hands-free operation.
Changes from version 3.00 to version 3.10:
Resolved phone disconnect issue.
Changes from version 2.80 to version 3.00:
Improved phone ring-tone support
New special pairing mode for some phonebooks
Improved support for text messaging
Changes from version 2.40 to version 2.80:
Improved Bluetooth support for various phones

Just Wondering

Did you have to update the operating software to update the bluetooth software?
I'm using 3.10 version and I'd really not upgrade to 4. whateveritisnow for an enhancement that's possibly not noteworthy.
Maybe I just answered my own question, thanks

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. - Herm Albright

you can stay at 3.10

Simply run WebUpdater & let the process complete, including the Bluetooth update. Then before disconnecting & rebooting the nuvi, delete x:/Garmin/GUPDATE.GCD. The nuvi is not actually updated until is it rebooted, the file GUPDATE.GCD is present in the x:/Garmin & GUPDATE.GCD is newer than the firmware that is currently on the unit.

If GUPDATE.GCD is not present on the unit in the above location, no firmware update will occur.

Some added firmware updates require the unit also be updated

I have been running the 4.20 firmware on my 760 and have none of the problems I was having with 3.10 like random shut downs or lock ups. It has been far more solid with 4.20 than it was with 3.10 firmware.

Keep in mind that some of the firmware updates for other items like lifetime traffic for the receiver are not compatiable with the older unit firmware versions. When I signed up for the lifetime traffic the email I received with the new lifetime code explains that in order to use it you must update both the unit and the receiver to the latest firmware version first for it to work.

Direct quote from the email:
"Step 1: Update the Software

Before enabling your new traffic subscription, you must update the GPS device’s software and the GTM traffic receiver’s software."

I would think that if a person is not going to update the GPS's main firmware it would probably not be to smart to update the other device firmware either. By doing that and then deleting the update file it may create additional unit problems with unit firmware not compatiable with or capable of working with the other added device's newer version firmware.

Garmin probably has a good reason for forcing you to update the unit firmware before they offer you any other updates.

Hard to say, the only thing I found was the voice dialing seemed to work better.

I also saw on another site that the Apple iPhone was now working with their 760, they could not get it to before the update.

nuvi 7x0 firmware 3.1/3.2...

FWIW, my nuvi 760 at firmware v3.20 works just fine with the new v3.40 Bluetooth update. There is no need to update your 7x0 firmware to v4.x in order to use this Bluetooth update.

More reliable connection

I upgraded to the new bluetooth software. It seems to be working well for me. With the old version I kept getting a message every few minutes saying that the phone was disconnected. (I assume it then re-connected itself).

I've just had it connected for an hour, made and received calls and no sign of the "disconnected" message.

So far so good!!

Bluetooth Doesnt work after BT update

Well i went ahead and updated mt nuvi 760 today and i added the BT update. Now when i try to turn on BT i get the screen Enabling Bluetooth and it just hangs there nothing will happen sad Ive never had any problems with update and now this time my BT is crapped out.
