Deleting Voices

There are a lot of voices on my 750 in different languages which I will never use. I am wondering if anyone has tried to delete them and if that has caused any problems. Seems like a lot of space taken up for nothing.

Will they be loaded back on every time I do a web update?

No problem to delete unused voices.

Yes, I've deleted the ones I didn't need, but I did back them up on disc first, just in case.

I actually didn't delete them because of the space, I did delete them to have a smaller list to choose from.

No need for voice file backups

There's really no need to back up voice files. Every time I run WebUpdater, it shows me all the voice files that I had deleted as available for download.

Won't auto load on update

The voice files won't automatically be added back into your unit when doing a web update. You can select any to restore if you wish.

Deleting the Extra Voices is Easy to Do

Just select the ones you dont need in the Garmin directory and zap. I backed up my original files, as was suggested above, just in case. It was not a problem.

In addition you can delete

In addition you can delete the other language "help" files. One quick question though, why isn't there American English in the "text" files?

English text files...

English text files are contained within the nuvi's non-user accessible memory area. This is to assure that the unit won't brick (or be useless) if all the user-accessible text files were somehow deleted from the unit

I've deleted them on my 750

I've deleted them on my 750 without any problems. I kept 3-4 but still haven't used any of them. I do get the option of re-installing them when I web update so they are there if ever needed.
