760 Boot time?

I recently installed Web Updater and by chance re-installed 4.20 only to find that my Garmin boots in ~25sec or less. I've been putting up with it hanging at "Maps" for a total of a 2min boot. My Lenovo XP netbook boots in 45sec!

Is there anything I can do to make it not get corrupted in the future? Or what did I, or it, do to make this happen?

Thanks.

Btw, does this forum have auto email notifications like a lot of others? If so, how can I turn them on?

Same Problem Here

I noticed the same thing. Of course, it's intermittent, so I can't reproduce it. It happens on the mount, or just starting up with the battery. Sometimes it boots quickly, sometimes it seems to take 2 to 3 minutes.

I've noticed the same thing......

I've noticed the same thing, since I updated to 4.20. Seems to happen more on battery, than when plugged in and on the cradle. It sits on "loading" for a long time. I usually get impatient and cycle power. It then boots up quickly.

Delay appears to be related to occasional file defrag process

It appears to be related to occasional file defrag done once in a while by the GPS firmware. The danger of turning the unit off during the process is that you can loose your TTS voice and you will need to do a hard reset to get it back. I tested it myself and that is what happened and that is the only time my unit has lost the voice file link.

See the link posted by Philc5987 in the post prior for more info on the map load delay.

Link to screen grab of my 760's defrag info screen page taken on Oct 15th showing the number of defrag times and the latest defrag date:

"To check if a DEFRAG has occurred after one of these instances, go to the trip computer screen and press the round speedometer dial for approx 7-10 seconds."

I lose my voice also, but if

I lose my voice also, but if I slide the on/off button to off then on again I can then select my voice.

What I don't get is this defrag thing happens without warning, so how do you know when it's safe to turn off your ignition?

At least now I know I can get the device I paid for to work as it should by reinstalling the software.

It looks like Garmin needs to put a defrag now button on the start screen.

I'm having the same problem

I'm having the same problem and it's annoying. I hope they come up with a fix for it.

Defrag

Defrag occurs at start-up, not shut down.
