No Mio forum on this board?

Hello all,

I was surprised to see that there is no Mio talk forum on this board. Are we supposed to put Mio talks under other GPS brands? I would think Mio has enough users to warrant it's own talk forum. Are there other Mio users around here?

Thanks.

Under "Other Brands"

It just goes under "Other GPS Brands", but the thread will pop up under "Active Forum Topics" as people respond or make comments. That way, you don't have to go looking for it if its active, but know where to go if not.

Actually I agree there should be a Mio & Navigon forums, then people would get past the stigma that this just a garmin community, which by all means it is not. you can always post in the chitchat thread, then all can help you .
So come on in and ask your questions and add to the conversation of the best GPS POI website in the World.

No support by Mio or Navigon to easily install custom POI's

It's probably due to the fact that this is mainly a POI forum and both Mio and Navigon do not support the easy install of custom POI files like some of the other manufacturer's do.

When I was originally looking to buy a GPS I went to most of the really comprehensive GPS review sites and found that there were almost no reviews available for Mio or Navigon. There was a lot of info available for Garmin, TomTom and Magellan. The only things I could find for Mio and Navigon were more like press releases from the manufacturer.

I don't know about Navigon

I don't know about Navigon but MIO does support a pretty easy way to import POIs. I was able to download some files from this site and import them to my Mio 310x.

don't know about that now.

rjrsw
I download POI's from this site and run a bunch of them simultaneously, and it's even pretty easy, on a Navigon. If support was offered to these users they would come, but Garmin users think that they are all that and a bag of chips, and actually my Garmin spends most of it's time in the dark of a drawer, but most Garmin users don't know any better because thats all they know, so they feel they have the best unit which isn't always true.

So to borrow a phrase from a movie "Build it and they will come" holds true here as well. Put the Mio and Navigon Forums up and they will come and even enhance the community with new members and ideas. After all this is a GPS oriented Community that dispenses POI's.

Maybe the Orphans should post in the Garmin or Magellan threads

They come and then go usually not to come back, who wants to wade through a message base full of posts that don't pertain to their GPSr, I for one don't, when I could be there helping people that need the help. So for the most part their answerers go unanswered and they move on, looking for that community that will serve their needs. and thats not good for the growth of this particular community at large.

Maybe the Orphans should post in the Garmin or Magellan threads so they can get the help they need,
Just a thought.

A home for orphans?

Why not give a home to Orphans? If there is not much activity in Mio forum it can be shut down in a few months. Can anyone tell me id of owner/mod who has decision making ability about this?

Brand? What brand?

I just peek through "recent posts," and follow up on whatever threads catch my attention. The only time I paid any attention to the brand was when I wanted to ask a specific question about my Garmin. redface

So until Mio forum is created, ask away on "Other Brands." We'll see your question and respond if we can. wink

In my case, I'd offer the best guess I have, which isn't much. redface

POI's for MIO C230

Hello...I am new to this POI world..just got this website from tech support at MIO...suprisingly they could not help me with the POI.
I need to upgrade my POI list...could some please give me the link or the file to install for the C230 model.

Mio Poi's?

Hey IP,

Do Mio's have the capability to have custom POI files created and loaded into them? I honestly don't know the answer.

BTW a quick Google for "Mio Forum" turns up a load of Mio oriented discussions. I didn't even look for Mio lists or newsgroups.

Cheers wink

Let's see if I can read between the lines and make a good guess at what they were trying to tell you:

Only MIO can provide an update to their built-in POI file and they don't have anything new to offer you at the moment.

So your only alternative is to supplement your existing POI's with something from POI Factory or other similar sight.......or have a little patience and just wait until MIO has a new one available (which might not be any better than the one you have now).

That's pretty much the way it works with most of the present GPSr units, from any manufacturer.

Magellan Maestro 4250// MIO C310X

I don not know if you are necessary correct

but one thing I know in Europe Mio is much stronger than Magellan and TomTom and ter community does develope not only POI's but skins and custom options to be used within te GSM/GPS's mostly. The fact that the moderators do not want to start a thread on Mio is a bit awkward but hey ... is them that make the rules ...broken or bended but rules...

Inquiring minds want to know

If MIOs can download custom POIs I'd like to find out how also. I have a Knight Rider and it appears to have a dearth of built-in POIs so I'm constantly having to input street addresses.

Also, in someone else's post it was referenced that "Garmin owners...think Garmin's are all that" (paraphrased). My expectations may be pretty low, but in a head-to-head, my Nuvi 200W is far superior to my Knight Rider (in spite of having the real KITT). That may also be due to KR being based on MIO's 300/310, but then again, the Nuvi is pretty easy to use out of the box--good enough for me as one who values a smart man-machine interface (like Apple stuff).
