Nuvi 250W firmware?

Hi everyone,

I have a Nuvi 250W from about a year ago now, and when looking at a friends recently purchased model Nuvi 250W i noticed that some things have been updated and look very impressive.

The fonts seem to be different, graghics as far as lines between the icons removed, border on bottom are circular and not rectangle across the whole screen, stores favorites under separate icon headings, Qwerty keyboard layout, address input includes country...etc.

Now the big thing was a volume button on the main screen, however upgrading to the newest firmware added that special beast to my older 250W!

So nothing major, just cleaned up a bit or showing a bit differently. My wife love the separate folders for stored favourites and qwerty keyboard layout....wanted to know if i could add that one feature.

I assumed a firmware upgrade would make them both identical, however while it did upgrade functionality (volume key on screen) the other items must be software based and not upgraded. Nothing to die for, but if i copied some files from the new to the old would that be asking for big headaches? I don't need map updates or anything, but the graphics do look snappier and less formal if it was an easy process.

Thanks for your thoughts...loving my Garmin it is absolutely wonderful.

Where is the firmware update?

Can you provide a link to the firmware update for the 250W?

Thanks

re: Nuvi 250W firmware?

Just phone to Garmin support about the new features in the 250W. The software version is 4.40 but when I try yo update mine it's up to date with version 4.00.
They told me that the new 250W had new HARDWARE and the new feature can't be download into "old" 250W.
to bad, 'cause they get real improvenent like AZERTY keyboard (with letters and numbers on the same screen), new pictogram screen menus, a new feature "where am I ?" that gives your coordonnates, nearest adress, and many nearest police station, hospital.... ect.

Agree with the Qwerty

Agree with the Qwerty kayboard and a few of the other features being nice to have...but more eye candy than a tangible necessity.

You can get co-ordinates off the original 250W, just tap the car icon on the screen and voila the co-ordinates are there.

I downloaded the Dr Nightmare voice from the Garmin site, was cool for about 6 hours then drove me nuts! Kids liked it however, so for halloween night we used it a bit. Toronto to Chicago took us about 8.5 hours, but what a fantastic City and history that City has.
