Mio C310x fly-over feature

I was looking at the fly-over feature, and it seems to work in real time -- that is if it would take me 3 hours to get somewhere, then it will take me 3 hours to do the fly-over. I've looked for some way to make this go faster, but each time it just cancels the fly-over. Anybody get this to work?

Thanks,

Frank

{quoted from Robinh's entry}

"The unit has a "fast flyover" feature that allows you to test your route, starting on side streets at 155 mph then highways at 345 mph, and I have to chuckle cause the over speed warning goes off when doing the fast flyover"

Mio C310x fast fly-over

In their Manual, there is a fly-over section that say Press and hold the Main menu button (Page 10) then tap Fly Over to quickly run through route. MioMap will fly the route in Cockpit mode at high speed to give you a rough overview of the route events. Miomap is tweaked to give you a smooth and easy-to follow playback even at this speed.

From page 10: Main Menu
If pressed while in the Cockpit, Map or Route Information screen displayed, this button will open the Main Menu screen.

NOTE: This button has a special function when starting fly-over. If started while keeping this button depressed, the simulation will be in fast to give you a rough overview of the route events.

I have never gotten it to work (in Fast fly-over mode) myself. But sounds like a nice feature.

Hey guys, the Fast Flyover

Hey guys, the Fast Flyover feature is a Tomtom/iGO feature that you can't see with the stock/original Mio skin. The guys who have hacked the Mio system and created custom skins (myself included) are making use of all these added features that exist, but aren't "turned on" in the stock Mio.

So, if you want a minimally changed skin you can get them off my site, or I have complete custom skins that give you a richer, fuller experience in using the Mio.

Funny thing, Mio tech support has started sending people to my site when they are overburdened and can't get answers, and are even suggesting they use the "Mio Transfer Hack" program to solve many of their problems. How odd is that?? "Uh, sir, sorry we can't give you an answer but if you go...."....lol

Send 'em a bill...or suggest they at least pony up a new/updated model GPS when they release one. smile

I agree

Sounds like some sort of compensation should be in order..lol. At least one to "play" with and one to "work" with.

If I wasn't so addicted...

If I wasn't so addicted to the darned thing I might go push them some, but I'm just trying to get them to agree to let me wholesale them from my site. I've had numerous people tell me they bought their Mio because of what they saw on my site, and that's about a good a compliment as you can get...

This will help me alot. I

This will help me alot. I would normally plan out a route and start the flyover then go get something to eat, watch tv, etc... and come back later.

Try the update...

There is an update on the Mio site which fixes some routing issues for the DC area. It also fixes the Fast Flyover so it works as described in the manual. A lot easier than the skins hack if all you want is the fast flyover, plus helpful if you're ever around DC!
Try this link - the file is named MapUpdate_C310x_0.0.0.0.2.exe)

update

Thanks B0bby for the update info.

The normal Flyover is a nice feature but so slow. Having the Fast version would be a real plus.

Download moonbear's skin from gpspassion.com

You can download moonbear's skin from gpspassion.com. His skin enable fast fly-over.

fly-over fix

I found it's even easier than all this to have the fast flyover for your Mio.

There's a file, sys.txt, that's located in your \My Flash Disk\MioMap\MioMap folder, you can open that up in notepad or any text editor and add these four lines:

[debug]
smart_2d=1
slowsim=1
loop_sim=1

The [debug] command may or may not be in your sys.txt file already, if not, add it at the VERY TOP. If it is, then check to see if you have the three selections below it.

Smart 2d isn't really part of the flyover, but it's a nice feature. The sim selections are 1 to allow fast flyover, 0 for no fast flyover. Loop just means what you think, that the flyover loops continually until you tap or touch the screen.

If you really want to add some functionality, copy the listings below as I've got them in my sys.txt file:

[debug]
smart_2d=1
slowsim=1
loop_sim=1
;show_segmentdir=1 (commented out, use this to show directions of specific highway segments. remove the ; and this in parenth to use this feature)
;show_oneway=1 (I use this in Manhattan a lot, remove the ; to add this functionality - it shows the direction of every one-way street)
show_uturn=1
show_mapid=0
show_segmentid=0
show_roadid=0
show_residentonly=1
show_gps_pos=1
builtupborder=1
;clickygps=1 (I don't like all the click noises when I'm doodling on the gps screen, this removes them, remove ; if you want them)
showcenter=1
show_speed_limit=1
show_optional_routeinfo=1
show_icons=1

[interface]
mio=1

[speedcam]
usemio=-12,90,37,27
