Need Advice Nuvi 260W With Nuvi 2X5 Software Installed!

Hi

After recently having Garmin Software Support Completely Wipe Out My Brand New Nuvi 260W. Garmin issued a RMA number for a New Replacement. I have just received (From Garmin) A Replacement Nuvi 260W. Upon booting the system for the first time I find many changes to my suprise. It appears that My Nuvi 260W as it is marked on the unit Serial Number Tag and also in the About System Info listed in the Operating System. Has been loaded with 2x5 Software. It has the same features as the Nuvi 255W. The system does not appear to be very accurate in a test drive and the Distance Accuracy is not at all Correct. I checked the Web Updater and it has Nuvi 2X5 Software version 3.10 Available for Download. I would appreciate anyones Opnion as to what you think I should do about this whole situation. The system seems to acquire sat fast and the processor browses fast navigating menus and the new features are nice. I am not sure whether to update software and check for any other updates or call Garmin and ask them what to do but I DO NOT trust there Opnions At ALL! The following list of specs come from the System Info on the Unit,

Nuvi 260W ,
Software Version 2.90,
Audio Version 1.0,
GPS SW Version 2.31b,
Basemap AMR Autoroute Basemap NR 2.00

Any advice would be appreciated as I feel you people are much more on top of issues then Garmin ever thought of being!

Thanks
Very Much!

I have the 3.10 software and it seems accurate

I also have a Nuvi 260W with Nuvi 2X5 software and I updated the software as soon as I got it to version 3.10. I can not compare version 2.90 to 3.10 but I can tell you that mine seems to be quite accurate.

Upgrade

Since you are not happy with the way the unit is functioning, I would go ahead and update. If you are still not happy, there are sites(if not Garmin) that have all the old software versions.(search the forum for links) Maybe you could find the version you had on your original unit.

Update

I attempted to Register the Unit and was forced to make the Upgrade in order to complete process.I am still not sure if it has made the system any better at this time but it seems it is no worse either.

Thanks

Another New Update 4.40

I see there is a newer Update listed on the webupdater today for the 2X5W Software Version 4.40. Rick you havent by any chance downloaded this and tried it out have you. I have seen so much bad news concerning 4.00 Updates and have also experienced it myself it has made me very leary of Garmin.

Thanks

4.40 update

No, I haven't updated to it yet. The upgrade goes from ver 3.10 to 4.40. Nothing about a 4.00 ver. Here's the URL to the update page

By the way what problems are you having? You mentioned accuracy, can you be a little more specific?

Wow, does that mean all the

Wow, does that mean all the 2x0 series Garmins can run 2x5 software? I returned by 200w and got a 205w due to HotFix. It now gets nearly instantaneous satellite fix, as opposed to taking up to 2-3 minutes with the 200w. I feel this would be a great upgrade for 2x0 users if they could get 2x5 software.

Accuracy

When I had my 260W it was much more accurate when giving directions as to store or resident locations. For instance our local Taco Bell is on a corner along the 4 Lane HWY Directy across the street is the Burger King. The 2X5 shows the Taco Bell a block further down the street then it actually is. But shows the Correct location for the Burger King on the opposing corner. This has been the case in several instances within the local area. In Comparison to the 260W which was almost always right on. Also when driving the upcomming streets and intersections are reached long before the systems shows them being reached again compaired to the 260W. I bought a GPS for Navigation and I expect it to do exactly that nothing more nothing less. And for the price these systems cost thats exactly what Garmin Customers Deserve IMO... I feel like Garmin has spent to much time focusing on Goodies instead of Navigation!

Thanks
