Organizing POI's on this site

I have actually already made a comment to Jon about reorganizing some of the poi files.

I am a bit of an anal retentive clean freak;)

I want to make sure that things stay uncluttered and easy for people to find.

JM might be down for the count for a couple of days, our children have brought home a flu bug and I just sent Jon to bed to rest.

In an interest to save space on GPS units and cards I uploaded each state rather than 1 huge file with every dealer in the country. I'm probably going to do the same thing with Toyota dealers. If it's to cluttered just delete them and I'll send 1 big file.

I wouldn't dream of deleting them, we have always planned on having things divided by area so that people could pick and choose based on location.

I agree, it would be nice to break things down a little.
The site has grown so much these past couple of months
that eventually finding certain poi's may get a little
difficult.

Hope JM isn't coming down with Flu.

I had a wild idea that sort of seems to work, or rather so far it works and I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Anyway, my custom POI file was getting so large that I was worried about my Mio failing to read something so big, as I think it was becoming the largest file on the unit.

So I took all the custom POI's that I was interested in actually keeping "live" on the Mio, and dumped them to KML format, then opened in Google Earth. Then I scrolled around the planet and deleted out states tht I didn't necessarily need, and saved the KML's back by region. Then I created several custom POI files that I keep on my SD card for each region. This way if I wander across into another region, I just swap files. Seems to be working fine so far.

Ok sub categories have been made for ham radios and for the Lexus dealerships. We will make sure to make sub categories for the ones that have lots of locations.

I would suggest that in addition to the state by state files, that you also load one large file for the US. In my case, I have plenty of room on an SD card for storage.

I still have 6 more states to finish in the Lexus Dealer poi mess.
Except.... I'm heading to FL on Monday and don't want to see a computer for at least 10 days. When I get back I'll finish up, and then create 1 large file also.

I was wondering if it would be possible to have a file with all the POI's zipped together for a faster download. I would be willing to donate for the download as it would be faster than downloading 1 file at a time.

The file would be broken down into directories like you have on your side.

It is nice to have you back on the site, I have missed you. You may want to check out the new Lighthouse Poi area, there has been a lot of work done capturing the locations of the lighthouses around the US.

I missed this place as well and all the nice friendly people here.

I was checking out the Lighthouse POI files. I also sent an email to the guy that created them thanking him for his great work.
