Spotted cameras

I had to drive to someplace in Broward County over the weekend and I noticed almost every intersection on Pembroke Pines Boulevard from I75 to University drive had Redlight cameras.

The cameras looked like traffic cameras however all four corners of the intersection had the cameras pointing to the center of the intersection. With the steep angle of the cameras all they could see is the intersection and not traffic flow approaching the intersection.

Either this upcoming weekend or next weekend I will try to make a special trip and document these intersections. The redlight file has one camera on Pines Boulavard. The cameras that are now at almost every intersection is the exact same type as the one documented at Flamingo and Pines Boulavard.

The only real clue as I wrote is the camera angles and not the type of cameras.

Yup, just send in the info

Yup, just send in the info when you get it.

Thanks,

.

Doesn't the state of Florida require signs on the corners stating that it is a redlight camera area?? Just wondering if you verified the cameras with the ones on this page.

It just doesn't hurt to verify this. Thanks. smile

RE: verify

No, there is no state requirement for them to post signs. As a matter of fact the state legislature has not recognized the use of the cameras for traffic enforcement. The DOT has also notified the City of Pembroke Pines they cannot put the cameras on state right of way but this has not seemed to stop the local governments in Florida from doing it anyway to collect the free money they are being offered by the private companies that are installing them.

As another matter of fact the company that is trying to get the city of Homestead to sign the contract posted in their annual report "that even though the Florida Legislature has not recognized or authorized the use of traffic enforcement cameras they are still hopeful to get the signed contract with the city of Homestead."

I posted another post http://www.poi-factory.com/node/16947 where I attached the supporting documents as to the position of the DOT and the State Attorney General at the time Pembroke Pines wanted to pursue the cameras.

In response to your question about the look of the cameras in Pembroke Pines they look like http://www.poi-factory.com/images/traffic2.jpg but the angle of the multiple cameras at those intersections are sharply pointed down so they capture the center of the intersection only as stated above.

The one camera that is in the database at the intersection of Pembroke Pine Boulevard and Flamingo is exactly the same type as they have installed on the other intersections. This one location was heavily publicized when they installed it because it was reported as one of the most dangerous intersections in the country a couple of years running.

I can understand doubts since they do not look like the big box or dual camera setup that is installed in Arizona examples but due to the angle and the one published location having the same camera I do not have any doubts.

traffic cameras

In Houston, there are many, many intersections with cameras, or at least devices that look identical to cameras. Only some, limited intersections are ticket generators. So, the presence of a camera alone does not indicate it's purpose and function.
