Nuvi 350 Update

Is it really worth updating a Nuvi 350 with the new update that Garmin has posted? What real advantages am I getting with this? Has anyone tested it yet? My son wants to update his Nuvi, but I'm not sure it is worth it.

Inquiring Minds

A lot of us would like to know as well....but nobody's willing to be the guinea-pig on this one.

Despite all the drama with the 7xx update, the vast, vast majority of the the firmware updates have no problems at all.

Unless there are reported problems, it's usually a good idea to update because often they fix things that might not be listed in the update history.

Updated

I've updated my 350 last night, and I haven't had any problem. wink

Then again, I haven't had any problem with my 750 running v4.1, either. confused

A Different Perspective

From my perspective, way too many of Garmin's updates cause problems on units that previously had none. Take me as an example -- for some reason one of my voices disappeared (one day there, next day gone). When I went to reload it, they required that I update the firmware first. I felt I had no choice, since that was the voice I always used. I now realize (thanks to Phil Hornby) that you can fool the system and never actually allow the update to install. But I didn't know then, and I lost sensitivity in the screen, I lost the ability to run mp3 alerts and listen to the mp3 player, and my map was totally gone. One upgrade. Others have had a myriad of problems.

If your son is having no problems, what is the likelihood he will see an improvement somewhere, even if it is there? Unless he is currently having problems, or the announced feature improvements include something VERY interesting to him, I think the downside greatly outweighs the upside.

Linebreak problem still not fixed

They still haven't fixed the linebreak display problem. For me, it's not worth the possible problems just to say 'I got the newest'.

One thing that appears to be added with the new versions is the inability to install an older version if the update doesn't work correctly. That's a huge 'minus' for me.

This is great info for those deciding. As for the promised improvements, what were they and can you see the improvement?

Nuvi 350 Update

I seem to update every few months and haven't had problems. I haven't updated with this latest version yet though. The "compatibility with new maps" sounds important for the future. I still won't get new maps every year, maybe every two or three years.

oH, OH. I updated my 350.

oH, OH. I updated my 350. Today when I turned it on a notice flashed on the screen. Went so fast I couldn't read it, but it seemed to be saying my map was updated. Then the screen went blank. That happens every time I turn it on.
