Actually there are two factors. One is gravity, the other is relative postion. One makes the sat clock go faster while the other makes it go slower. So both have to be taken into account.

I was watching a program which talked about the responsibilities of the Air Force. One of them is maintaining the GPS satellites. Every morning they sync the satellites with an atomic clock in CO.

Thats pretty cool, thanks for that fact.

Gotta love being in Space Command and syncing all those satellites.

Wow - I guess my Atomic Wristwatch is in sync with the satellites also, Awesome.

That must be a hard job going from satellite to satellite and getting out of your space ship and moving them around.

Let alone winding each one up with a giant key...

As I rarely wear a watch (habit that stuck with me since growing up and working on a farm) I used to ask people in passing for the time. I would get a different answer all day long!

Now, with GPS, I can simply look at the display for the time. Of course - it gives me a different answer every time I look at it.

As for relativity, my favorite relatives are my children... and they aren't theoretical... Like black holes or the universe is really a hologram. Are we three or four dimensional beings living on a two dimensional surface? Or are we living at singularity? Or are we living on the event horizon? Or am I from the constellation Ophiuchus? Or is this the constellation of Ophiuchus... Oh wait they say black holes aren’t theoretical any longer…. and they are never incorrect… I guess there really are eleven demensions...

All this information is going to be sucked into a black hole and evaporate into nothing...

Oh BTW It's not in my nature to be serious, unless it the World Serious...

Edit: Oh another BTW Mercury really does go into retrograde Sept 24th and that's not theoretical...

I love the 50's Sci Fi movies wher the scientist was wearing a double breasted cotton lab coat and rubber gloves. When he went to use the reactor he would put on a set of goggles-now that's protection, LOL!

I believe the watches are sync via shortwave radio, WWV in Fort Collins, CO.

Shortwaves, Say it ain't so. I thought he had a miniature reactor on his wrist, now I'm disappointed, really really disappointed. Oh heck.

I knew I was on to something... The world is shrinking but some people aren't.... I've notice there are a lot of talller people in the world... Look at the NBA and WNBA....

And on top of that, tomorrow Mercury goes into retrograde again, then were in for it. I just hope the world doesn't shift on it's axis again, and all of our gpss will be off by 3.14159265 meters....
