What is "My Locations" intended to be used for?

Looking under my user name I see several items listed, with "My Locations" being the third one, below "my account" and "my buddylist."
If I enter information, where will the lat/lon and location name wind up? Is it supposed to be used as the lat/lon/name for my house, work, etc? Or is it for
my favorite places?
And once I enter this information, will it be added to some gigantic POI list at the Factory, or will it be
private?
Just curious, and haven't found the answer yet, so hesitate to use it.
