Nuvi 760 @ ver 3.0 any reason to upgrade?

New nuvi cam with 2009 maps and version 3.0 software. With all the 4.x fiasco is it even worth it to upgrade to version 4.1? I ran the webupdater and it said version 4.1 was the only update. I assume the maps are up to date?

Yes, your map is up-to-date.

For now, I'll strongly suggest you not upgrade to firmware 4.1 or do any voice or other upgrades for now. What you can do now is back up your nuvi's software onto your PC.

Keep checking here and you'll see when most users upgrade to something beyond 4.1. Once done and you read that many are happy with the new version, then go ahead and upgrade your nuvi's firmware and voice/etc.

Software Update

Don’t update your software until we have something that is running as it should be. This goes for all 7xx models.

You should definitely not update at this time. Garmin seems to be having serious problems with bugs in their software. So if your unit is working, don't do anything to it.

In fact, if you do have a pristine unit with 3.0, you should hide your unit in a closet or something. Otherwise, all of the folks with screwed up units might try to steal yours!!

P.S. - you probably shouldn't even run WebUpdater until further notice. At some point Garmin may try to force automatics updates as soon as you connect. So why even risk it.

Thanks all. Putting a

Thanks all. Putting a condom on the nuvi as we speak smile

Upgrade...........

If I had a 760 with 3.0 and somebody tried to get me to upgrade to the $@%@^@#^@ version I have now I'd beat them silly. Want to trade units? smile

Too Late

Too late thrak! I already broke into his house and swapped his unit with my crappy 4.10 unit. hehehehe

Do not upgrade until these threads quiet down!!

I'm still on v3.0, having avoided upgrading my firmware because of three major road trips around the time v3.1 and v4.0 came out. As is my photography, it's been a personal principle never to work with new UNTESTED equipment (or upgraded UNTESTED equipment) before a major event.

So it was just luck that v3.1 came out a couple of days before a couple of week-long road trips to Oregon and Washington states. I thought I'd wait after the trips to upgrade. Came back and saw the fiasco in the threads. Then v4.0 came out mere days before a camping trip in late August. I thought surely this new version will fix all problems and I'll upgrade when I come back from camping. Uggh...we all know how v4.0 is faring.

As I said in another thread, maybe I'll never upgrade my perfectly working 760 from v3.0 (that is, perfect "so far" - cross-fingers...).
