Sorry about the 7xx 4.00 FW Fiasco

I just wanted to apologize to everyone that lost bluetooth functionality, that followed the directions I posted to backdate the FW on the 7xx series.
Anyone with a 750 should have been ok.

I've been in daily contact with a software support engineer, at Garmin, and he assures me they are working diligently to fix the problems, caused by the release of ver 4.00.
He also stated that they will handle the problems you may have on a case by case basis.
If your device is still within the retailers return policy, where you purchased it, you may be able to exchange your unit for a new one.
Your other option is to contact Garmin and they will advise you of what they can do to solve your problem, which may mean returning your device to Garmin.

I think Garmin disabled the link, to download the Updater.exe file, so no one else will be able to backdate the FW, if you have already updated to 4.00.

Those of you that have 4.00, already on your device, just be patient, and wait for the next release.

Again I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. I'm in the same boat as you, since I have lost bluetooth function too, and I'm in the process of returning my unit to Garmin.

I'm sure no one thinks it's your fault

That Garmin released a flawed update & fix... Your intentions were only to help. I lost the use of my 760 but I never thought it was anyone's fault but Garmins or my own. Today my new 770 is supposed to be delivered... I will now follow my own advice, if it isn't broken, don't fix it.... The only update I'm prepared to use is 2.90, I'll see what version is on the 770 and then back it up...

.

aophiuchus - actually, it would be much easier for all of us if we could blame an individual instead of a large faceless corporation. So I say we blame Philc5987.

I have a pitchfork, who has torches? Let's get Philc5987 and make him pay for bringing this pain and suffering upon us.

(note - in case it isn't obvious, I'm kidding. We should not blame Philc5987. He was only trying to help us. The blame falls firmly on Garmin's shoulders.)

Naw... I want the blame...

I was the idiot that installed it on my nuvi and then tried to back out of it... If I wasn't so wishy-washy I would still have my 760 instead of a brand new 770 with a new 3 months of traffic... I love Costco.... I may even get a new Europe map along with North America... shock

So let's burn me at the stake or let's burn the steak or.....

since you're in constant

since you're in constant contacts with garmin, maybe you can talk them into writing a software to convert our 7x0 to 7x5T =P

maybe then we'll spare you.

No Apology Necessary

No need to apologize. I, for one, appreciate your efforts to work with Garmin to get this resolved.

No no no...

No, thank YOU, Phil, for all your help. If there's anyone who needs to make a public apology, it should be Garmin!

I already tried that........

I already tried that and it was a no go.
There are hardware changes too, not just software.

No need to apologize.

The software support engineers at Garmin should have this problem fixed soon. They now no that there is a problem. laugh out loud

Doesn't seem like everyone is on the need to know list......

They may know that there is a problem, but it seems like they're not telling all their Support Engineers about it.
It sure is taking them along time to fix it. Must have been something major.

What Problems?
I called Garmin late yesterday and talked to a tech person and asked him if he had any idea when a new update would be available that would fix the problems that their release 4.00 caused a lot of us folks. He said "WHAT PROBLEMS"? I explained about the lag, audio and locking problems that I and many other 7.xx Garmin users were experiencing and he said that he had not heard anything about these complaints! He had me do the old hard reset routine like it was the magic fix all for everything. All that did was make me lose my favorites and set my unit back to all it's default settings. Just more grief by making me spend time putting everything back the way it was.
I would suggest that anyone with a Garmin 7.xx GPS that is having problems call Garmin everyday at 1-800-800-1020 and ask them when a fix will be available. That is what I'm going to do. Don't let them talk you into doing a hard reset. Maybe if we pester them enough, they might acknowledge that they have a problem that needs to be fixed. It is almost as if they do not want to fess up to their dastardly deed. Denying the problem, taking the 4.00 update off their website, not mentioning anything about this problem on their webpage and acting like everything is just fine in Garminville smells like a cover-up to me.

Garmin Nuvi 780

Just a little acknowledgement would be nice.

I would like to see an acknowledgment of the 4.00 problem on their website and maybe a little note saying that they are aware of the problem and are working on it and to be patient. That's not asking to much. Anything other then a "what problem" would suffice. I have looked everywhere on the Garmin web site and find nothing that they even know about this situation. Only clue I see that they know of the problem is the 4.00 update disappearing mysteriously.

Not having any problems with a 760 and 4.0

I'm not having any problems with my 760 after the 4.0 upgrade. At least, not any NEW problems. Or are you referring to those who upgraded to 4.0 and then downgraded afterwards?

both!

As for Phil, You’re not at fault. We here are always looking for software candy even if it’s a small fix. Those are that are brave enough to update there firmware/software go for it. Since Garmin doesn’t say the updates are a must and know one person here is twisting arms, its pretty much a roll of the dice.
