Adding Traffic Subsciption

My Nuvi 760 tells me that my traffic subscription will end soon so I take advantage of the $60 lifetime offer I saw on the Garmin site.

However i have run into a problem. When I enter the code, while dutifully connected to the receiver and having external power supplied, my Garmin tells me the code is accepted. Even so, when turning on my Nuvi every time in the vehicle after this, I get a reminder that my subscription is going to expire soon.

Has anyone else run into this issue and if so were you able to correct it and how?

I was going to pay for a subscription till I found out the new nuvis come with a lifetime subscription so there is no way I am going to pay 60 for a year. I will pay 60 for a one time fee though

A friend of mine just bought a 770 and it comes with the usual 3 month trial of FM TMC Traffic .

I have heard about this "Lifetime" subscription but I have not been succesful at finding it anywhere.

I have seen the "Lifetime" sub for MSN Direct ( $130)... but if anyone can choke up a link to the FM/TMC "Lifetime" traffic subscription, please share it with us all.

Thanks !

Garmin Response

"I apologize for the inconvenience. At this time, we are aware of the issue. However, we do not have a fix for it yet. Our software engineers are working on getting this corrected though. There should be a software update in the coming days."

This was their response to me emailing them over the weekend about this problem. Kudos to them for a response within 24 business hours. Can't say I am enamored of their content of the response. My trial subscription ends in 2 days.

This is the link I used

Sing into Garmin site and then go to
http://www8.garmin.com/traffic/
then click on add a subscription under FM Traffic

I will tell you though that as I looked at it today and went through the steps the subscription reverted back to one year for $60. Maybe because it knew I already bought it. But I don't know what you all will see.

.

Hopefully you took a screenshot when you made the purchase, or your printed receipt shows a lifetime subscription. Because my guess is someone made a mistake on the Garmin website by changing a 1 year subscription to say lifetime subscription, and once you alerted them to the issue they fixed the website.

Let us know how this works out.

I haven't renewed my traffic

I haven't renewed my traffic subscription since moving to Florida. There didn't seem to be many areas where it actually was receiving a signal. I just tested the account number on my nuvi 660 and it came up okay. Maybe I will renew it just to see if there is enough coverage to make it worthwhile.

I'll keep checking web update and let you all know if something is accomplished.

I do indeed have a receipt showing "one time subscription"

if you can live with advertisements on your gps

free lifetime on new nuvi's = ads being displayed on the gps

at least that's what i heard

Times up

The other day my 760 said that my subscription had ended, or was about too...I forget which...but I didn't see anything saying that a lifetime subscription was only $60.

I'd pay $60 for lifetime coverage...but $60 a year seems a little steep considering how few highways are covered in my area. :-/

$60 to get rid of annoying reminding messages, good deal

I had my 670 for about one month. I did see the traffic alert popped up couple times. (not too bad on commuting during summer time) Now, I have to worry AFTER free 3 months trial is up, will I receive reminding messages about subscription unless I pay to have it shut up, or this reminding will be gone once it passes three months?
I can't say I do not need traffic alert. $60 life time seems fair.

Trial's last day was yesterday.

I emailed Garmin yesterday and told them to hurry with a fix as my trial subscription ended at then end of the day. Today they emailed me and asked for my traffic unit ID in order to "try something to activate your subscription." I'll let you know what they come up with when they do.

About a week before it ends a screen will pop up and one of the choices is do not remind me again, just hit that and I never saw anything else again.

Thanks, rjrsw. Good to know that. I will see how many traffic alerts popped up to decide if I (my GF) really need it.

To answer Trevans's question,
$60 lifetime subscription from thread originator. I did a search on internet, but could not have this verified. Sorry.

subscription

I just went to Garmin website and FM traffic subscription says $60 for 1 year. If anyone finds $60 lifetime please post it.

Lifetime traffic?

I did a search on fm traffic and came across the following link:

http://www.gpsreview.net/lifetime-traffic-garmin-tomtom/

To quote it says: "The $60 Lifetime offer doesn’t appear on the Garmin site now, but at least some support reps have been telling people that the lifetime offer went up a little too soon before the new codes started working."

this is good news

this is good news

Garin gave me a new code

Yesterday Garmin tech support emailed me with a new subscription code. I input it and it tells me that it is accepted. When I check it tells me the subscription expires in 1 year.

So for now I have my traffic service back after over two weeks but situation is still unresolved and I have responded to Garmin in writing with a kindly worded demand that they help me get my lifetime subscription in place.

Lifetime for new models only??

Looking at Garmin's press release at:

http://www8.garmin.com/pressroom/mobile/082708b.html

It appears that the offer for free lifetime traffic service is on new units. I didn't see anything on being able to purchase the lifetime service on units that have already been sold, just on purchasing these specific new models (nüvi 755T, 765T and 775T)

And it shows that I have a "one time" subscription. Also when putting the code for that subscription into my Garmin it's acceptance initially shows that it has no expiration. The problem is that this acceptance lasts only a few minutes and certainly no longer that one on/off/on cycle.

I hope the traffic will become lifetime, not the one year. If anyone finds out the lifetime for 760 I would like to know!

Maybe there are local radio stations are willing to provide FREE traffic alert to GPSr systems by injecting commercials between turns.

Lifetime available Wednesday

From Tech Support today came the note that said lifetime subscription CODES MAY be available on Wednesday (10/1). The tech support person said that I should email him on Wednesday for a code that should enable me to finally achieve my lifetime subscription.

next week, I guess I will

next week, I guess I will look into this.

just read that the new units

just read that the new units with the lifetime traffic will have advertisements.

I wonder if they will be able to force that into an older unit?

Can you get..........

Can you get lifetime traffic subscription on a c530?

The reciever

allbizz wrote:

Its not the GPSr unit, its the receiver that has more to do with subscriptions. I have the GTM-20.

C580

I am curious too, might the C580 also be eligible for this lifetime deal? I feel the same way, $60 for a lifetime subscritption seems fair, more than that not so...

Nuvi 660

I, too, will be watching this to see if older units can be updated with a lifetime subscription!

Fair Price

I have to have my traffic support, but $60/year has always felt pricey. Maybe Garmin has found that not many are renewing at $60/year and that $60/life of unit will up the renewal rate?

The life span for a GPSr (including being stolen) can be three to five years. People may opt to purchase a new unit to get a new hardware and new map. If the theory stands, Garmin should see subscription continue to grow.

Garmin have just released some new firmware for the GTMxx Traffic Receiver. Actually, they claim they released it a week ago on 23rd Sep, but I'm sure they didn't!

One of the announced changes is:
Add dynamic priority for pay service where free is available

which sounds like it could be pertinent.

Personally, I won't be installing this on either of my Traffic Receivers, as they're both working OK wink
(Here in the UK, they're supplied with a lifetime subscription in the first place.)

Traffic Subscription

I don't have a lot of use for the traffic subscription since I only go to the city, Dallas, occasionally but for $60 lifetime cost it would be well worth it. I have a nuvi 350 and I assume if they make it available it will work on older units like mine.

MSN is still at the higher rate

Bought a lifetime MSN traffic subscription about a month ago... Haven't seen any changes in price with MSN, so this must just be for the other service.

I'm curious, what service do they use (with ads) on the new GPS systems with lifetime traffic?

Larry

Traffic

It would be nice if XM offered a "Lifetime" traffic subscription for a reasonable price.

I have a 2730 and it can only use XM NavTraffic.

It won't work with MSN or any others.

XM Navtraffic is not worth the money at this point, but I would still buy a lifetime sub in hopes it would get better over time.

Tim

The new updater...........

The new webupdater has:

Changes from 5.10 to 5.20:
Add dynamic priority for pay service where is free available.

Display "Lifetime" for Clear Channel lifetime entries.

If its not being rude asking, what is the MSN lifetime cost?

$130

yep, 130

calrayray wrote:

$130

MSN is $50 a year, so $130 lifetime is not so bad.... and when you can cancel anytime during the first 3 years and get a refund 'pro-rated' it's a no-brainer.

I do use the gas prices, stocks, movie times etc... but had I known the other service offered a $60 lifetime it may have swayed my decision.

Well even though I've paid the $60 I still don't have my lifetime subscription. Now Garmin tells me it may happen Monday (10/6) but I'll believe it when I see it.

So 130 for MSN lifetimes plus the other info that provides doesn't look so bad. You've got product, all I've got is the honor to provide Garmin and TMC an interest free loan for an unsure duration.

You are not the only one

Check out the thread...it will be interesting to see how it plays out. A refurbed c550 or nuvi 350 looks better all the time.

Traffic

Does anyone know if the Lifetime Subscription is, or would be, locked to a specific GPS unit or receiver ? Or can it be moved between whatever units you want.

I see that the new offering of Lifetime "Maps" states it is for a specific GPS unit ONLY and cannot be moved to a different unit. So if your unit goes up... POOF... so does your lifetime maps.

Oh.... BTW, some think that $60 year for FM-Traffic is High or that $130 for MSN Lifetime is high, but consider yourself lucky that you don't have a GPS that will only work with XM NavTraffic like my 2730.

The XM Navtraffic service is $155 PER YEAR !!!

And it isn't very reliable either.

Tim

traffic subscription

Traffic subscription today requires the receiver serial number. As it stands you would hope it transfers with the receiver.

Quote from Garmin's site and link to the web page that the quote comes from, also lists the models that it will work with. From what they told me when I called them it will most likely run $60 for lifetime:

Quote from web page:

"Upgrade for Life
You can also renew or purchase a subscription at any time. See our FM Traffic Services pages to purchase a lifetime subscription for Clear Channel traffic.

Compatible Products
The following products are compatible with Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network:

nüvi 300-series, nüvi 600-series, nüvi 700-series, zūmo series, Street Pilot c-series, 7200, 7500, 2720, 2730 and 2820"

Get A Definitive Answer Before You Purchase

Be aware that when you click lifetime subscription link, the next page specifically says the $60 subscription is annual. So it may or may not be a lifetime subscription.

I was told there will only be lifetime available & no annuals

hd100 wrote:

I was told by a rep that it would be lifetime but they are still having a problem with the web site code saying annual. He also told me that this week they are all going into a big training session for the new lifetime traffic program so it appears it will be lifetime even though it says annual. According to what I was told the only choice will be lifetime.

Also others that have recently signed up were assured that shortly their's will be showing as lifetime and not yearly.

I called them because I was trying to decide if I should sign up for the Clear Channel lifetime for my 760 or wait and purchase the new 765 with lifetime traffic included. After reading more and talking with them I found out that even though Tucson is in the top 30 largest populated city's in the US it is not covered in the Navteq coverage area but the Clear Channel does cover the Tucson area. So either way I would still have to sign up for the $60 lifetime Clear Channel program to get coverage. I guess I will just stick with my 760 that is now working great with the new 4.20 firmware and just go for the lifetime traffic option.
