Need help saving POI Files and Favorites.

Sorry, but the information is there somewhere, except I could not find it using search.
I am throwing away my 660, and before I do, I would like to save my custom poi and favorites.
There was a topic on how to save them and later put them back in the folder.
Anyone post a link to that process?

TIA

Re: Need help saving POI Files and Favorites.

The current.gpx file contains your favorites, and the poi.gpi in the garmin\poi folder will be your custom POIs (actually any .gpi file in that folder).

Import

Import the 660's current.gpx (favorites) to mapsource, then save to computer. Custom POIs are in the poi folder, those can be moved to computer.

Tired of dealing with Garmin

Too many problems. Bought new at retailer for $800.
Since then have replaced from Garmin (hopefully not refurbished). The power cord will not charge the unit.
Bluetooth will not work with the upgraded firmware.
For that amount, its a crappy toy. Got tired of having to keep shipping unit or parts back to Garmin.
Finally asked for a RMA to send it back so they can just keep the damn thing.
Probably will look at Tom Tom to see if they are any better.
The problem with Garmin is, they introduce a new model like every week and to use a new feature, one has to spend a lot of money to get a newer model.
They would be better off in the long run to secure market share and customer base if they offered an annual subscription to upgrade to newer features and maps, rather than making them buy a new unit.
Most of it is firmware and software based, so I do not see why their business model cannot be more consumer friendly. Perhaps last year when the economy was better, people would spend money on toys, but now the GPS novelty has worn off, and I look at it as a useful appliance rather than a hobby.
In the end, if the product does not work as advertised, its not a good product.

Merging files from two GPS's

So if I were to save the .gpx and poi folders on my desktop from GPS 1, and then do the same from GPS 2, will I be able to combine the two contents, and reload them on the third unit that I may buy?
Thanks.

Assuming it's a Garmin you buy ... just let the unit do the 'combining'.

Copy the first current.gpx to the new unit and reboot. Then repeat for the 2nd one.

(Unlike Garmin CSV files, GPX files have some sections that shouldn't appear more than once. If you want to physically merge the two files, you'll have to use a editor that is aware of the internal structure of the files it is merging. You could make use of the (free) functionality in GeePeeEx Editor to do this job - but it's not strictly necessary.)

The first option seems simple. I created two unique garmin folders and dropped the contents of poi and gpx folders in them.
Once I have a new unit, will follow the instructions.

So long as none of the units is a 3xx series, it's all that should be needed. (The 3xx uses a different fields in the .gpx file to store address information).

I have a 660 and a 680. Giving back both, and may replace it with a 760.

How so

It does, how so? Other than using what else is different? Are the fields still log, lat, name, info? I have a 350 and haven't really looked at the gpx file outside of using mapsource. I know I can and have linked pics and sound to waypoints (poi's).

Trust Phil. He's done a lot of research on this. The 3xx series using a different data field within the data than all the other models.
