Errors in routing

I have a C530 w/ the 2008 map update. I have had the same problem/error with this unit on several occasions.

I put in an address for a route to a different city. The unit has delivered me to the wrong place. I don't mean wrong as in wrong number, but several miles off. Each time the unit tells me my destination is on the left or right. When in fact the address is several miles as the crow flies from where I'm told it is. I've had this happen in several cities in NY or PA. Most of the time the unit does as it should. But this problem recently delivered me to the correct address but in a different town then requested.
I know the C530 has some age on it, should I be looking around for something newer?

Don't know

It might help if you gave us some examples. That would allow us the opportunity to verify the route and see if it really is an issue with your unit.

It would also help if you could tell us where it took you so that we could compare.

Check route before travelling

Unfortunately I've found that routes need to be checked and verified before travelling. There have been many times that I have had to use Google Earth Lat/Long coordinated as the destination point.

It's a pain, but I STILL don't trust the basemaps.

One thing I've discovered is

One thing I've discovered is that the town on the street address isn't always the town that the GPS sees. I was in Idaho for my brother's wedding last month, and his new street address is in Ammon Idaho, but my Nuvi 260 only recognized it if I entered it as Idaho Falls, Idaho. It ultimately got me to the right house, but if I entered the address as Ammon, I got the "not found" message.

I've never had the exact problem you are seeing anyplace I've used my 260 so far, but I've never traveled in the northeast, so there may be map issues that I haven't seen here in the west.

Not mine

My c530 is still as accurate as ever. It is now almost 2 years old and I am still running the maps that came with it. Only once or twice did I have an issues as you describe. I would tend to think the problem may be in map data errors.

Errors in Route

Here is the destination address, my start address was Buffalo, NY. I'm not sure how you will verify the route unless you intend to drive it. Because it was only when I arrived at my "Garmin" destination that I realized that I was 5-7 miles off.

48 East Market St., York PA

I would be interested in what you find, gpfoster

Route errors

Repribe, I have found the same thing here in my hometown, I live in the village of Williamsville if you imput my address with Williamsville it's not found. But if you use Amherst lo and behold the GPS can find it. What makes this more interesting is in Metro Toronto when you imput a destination your given the option of putting in the postal code. When I've done this the GPS is never wrong. And it make no difference how small or large the town where the destination is.

Incorrect turn indication

Over the past two weeks i had several cases of wrong turn indication by my 770:
1. Telling me to exit right from the 202 to the I10 to continue to Phoenix (coming from the East Valley) while the correct turn was to stay left. (I wasn't paying enough attention and ended up on the 53 north)
2. Telling me to turn right too soon coming from the 202 in the East Valley onto the US60 to go East (I found myself going West, the East exit was just a bit further)
3. Telling me to get off the SR188 onto a quasi-nonexistent FR26 (admittedly to save a few miles but the FR looked like a trail to me, not a road) to reach the 87. I didn't fall for that one.

I should say if that had happened in an area totally unknown to me, I would have been quite worried (and maybe lost, for a while at least)

Voice

Sometimes the voice is not correct...I have found that in several instances. Report the errors to Garmin so they can fix them. Most of the time it has happened to me on "layered" highways and ramps....

Routing Errors

Be careful when selecting a waypoint also. If you just click a city/town name it will route to the center of town. That may involve several u-turns and dead ends.

I've had the same thing

I've had the same thing happen to me plenty of times. I fixed it by making sure I had te most up to date software and firmware.

Re: Errors in routing

Now you know why I walked the restored area of Williamsburg and got the l/l right off of the Nuvi.

Then I got the street addresses from the City of Williamsburg's Tax assement map. The Nuvi map was often off by a block.
