Save user data?

Hi all,
Is there a way to save all user data (favorites) from Garmin C550 to my computer? I tried Mapsource (receive from device) and it said "this device has no maps, waypoints, routes or tracks).

Thanks.

copy the current.gpx

On the Nuvi 350, don't you go to Garmin\gpx and copy the current.gpx file to computer. This will open in Mapsource and other programs

.

Are you sure that you have the correct device selected in the drop down list in the "Receive from Device" window?

If you just want to save your gps favorites download this simple program and transfer to your computer. http://www.easygps.com/download1.asp

Thank you all, for your

Thank you all, for your replies.

- Under /garmin/gpx, it's empty on my C550
- mapsource automatically detected my device with the correct serial number of my C550 so it was correct. It just said "the device has no maps..."
- I will try EasyGPS. Thanks!

What else are considered 'user data'? In other words, I need to clear all 'user data' on my C550 and what will get cleared?

Thanks.

How exactly were 'favorites'

How exactly were 'favorites' saved? I saved a lot of favorites on my C550. Even with EasyGPS, it said "no waypoints on device". I guess 'favorites' are not the same as 'waypoints'. But where are my favorites on the Garmin?
Thanks!

They're definitely written out to \Garmin\GPX\Current.gpx - but I think Garmin made a change a while back, so that this file is not written if the unit doesn't have a satellite fix. Maybe it's to stop the file being written with a duff time-stamp?

Where are the Favorites stored on a StreetPilot?

When I savew3 favorites, where are they stored? I can find no file in the gpx directory. EasyGPS shows nothing. Anyone have a clue? I've read the entire thread.

gpx directory empty...

Under my \Garmin\GPX directory, it's empty. I don't know how you get a satellite fix when connected it to USB as that puts the Garmin GPS into USB drive mode, not operating mode.
These favorites must be located somewhere inside the GPS...?

If you have favorites on

If you have favorites on your gps they should show when you run Easygps.
1.Hook gps up to computer
2.Click on Easygps go to top and click on gps.
3.Receive from gps
4.Put check mark in waypoint
5.Make sure you see gps listed in gps settings.
6.Complete running Easygps

Same here. EasyGPS showed nothing and \garmin\gpx dir is empty..

They definitely are stored somewhere else - CURRENT.GPX is only ever a 'backup' copy.

Have you noticed that sometimes when you're indoors and you haven't got a fix, the time is still correct. But, sometime's it isn't (it seems to favour 01:00). I *think* it's related to that effect.

Try taking it outdoors to get a fix and then bring it back inside and connect in mass-storage mode. It might solve your problem.

EDIT
You might get a different result using EasyGPS - but only if you put the C550 into 'Garmin USB GPS' mode first - ie the mode that the C3xx uses.
(Hold time for 7 secs to enter diags. and THEN connect USB cable)

That's what I did. My C550 GPS was in gps settings. I clicked on OK. Nothing showed up. What GPS do you have?
Thanks.

I have a Garmin c340 and just done it to make sure nothing has changed. It worked perfect. When you touch where to then favorites you do see a list right?

Oh yes! I have a long list of favorites listed there and I can see it just fine under 'whereto->favorites'.

BTW, putting the GPS in diagnostic mode before connected the USB cable, then started EasyGPS didn't do anything...

You got another usb cable

You got another usb cable you can try? That one statement in your post "the device has no maps..." is troubling. You haven't deleted any files from your unit by accident have you?

Got it finally...

Ok, I got it now. Just by accident. I clicked on 'whereto->browse map' then just pick a point and save it.
Now when I connected it back to the USB, the current.gpx file showed up under \Garmin\gpx and opened it with mapsource, I could see all my favorites there.

Not sure where it was before I saved this dummy favorite...

Glad you have it now.Still

Glad you have it now.Still not sure why Easygps didn't work, lots of people use it with no problems.

current.gpx

Once the file current.gpx showed up, Mapsource was able to "receive from GPS" just fine.

Getting Favorites off Streetpilot

Here is what works. Turn the unit on and be sure it gets a sat fix. Then with the unit on, plug in the USB cable. The current.gpx file is then in the directory and you can download your Favorites as waypoints through MapSource, EasyGPS or whatever.

The "trick" is to turn the unit on, let it grab sats and THEN connect the USB cable with the unit on.
