Shy icons on Nuvi260

I'm pretty new here, and believe me, I've tried searching the FAQ's here and elsewhere without much help, so here it is:

The only way I seem to see icons for POI's is if I start scanning around by dragging the map around some, and even then they just seem to suddenly appear at some time. I know there's a limit regarding the zoom, also. But I almost never see them while driving. I only saw one today for the first time, and only the one!

So is there I guide I've missed somewhere, describing the behaviour of the icons?

Thx in advance for the help!

.

You typically must be zoomed in to at least 300 feet (200 feet on some models) in one of the 2d map modes in order to see the icons on the map screen.

Some models won't display them unless you are zoomed in AND in the map browsing mode.

Bummer. I guess as I'm

Bummer. I guess as I'm old-school with a 260, that means I'd be in the zoomed AND browsing mode category. Oh well. Something to look fwd to in the future. Like the fact I can't add sound files to my POI's, as the 260 doesn't play MP3. I didn't know about custom POI's and such until buying it (My 1st GPS) and thought, I have a car stereo, why would I need my GPS to play MP3 music out of a tiny speaker? Duh.... Chalk it up to another life learning experience.

Thx for the reply Mama!

You can use wav sound files on your 260. Search for lots of posts on the subject, or you can go to Gary's Tips & Tricks Website.

(Jaw drops) Thank you! That will be so cool! I browsed through his site but didn't catch that. I'm off to see how it's done.

I have noticed on my 350,

I have noticed on my 350, that the highlight for the "highlighted route" seems to be wide enough to cover up a lot of roadside POI icons. I tested this by using my detour button, and turning before a Custom POI, and seeing it for the very first time as I was driving. If anyone has any ideas how to make the highlight thinner, please let me know.
