I am very new to this and I can't figure out how to put sound or a icon in the rest area file.
I downloaded the rest area file to a folder i call download and then i went to the icon area and downloaded rest area 1bmp to my download file and i did the same with the sound file so now i have 3 files in "download" now what?
How do i rename them?
HELP.........Cy
Simple
Whatever name you have given to the Rest Area file - I'll use as an example:
RestAreas.csv (for the POI file)
RestAreas.bmp (for the icon)
RestAreas.mp3 (for the sound file)
should all be in same folder or sub folder !

right click on the file name and select rename

is that what you are asking?
Garmin Streetpilot c340, Garmin Nuvi 360
Thank You for asking this
Thank You for asking this question! I, too, am having difficulty understanding...I am reasonably computer illiterate.
Can someone please give or point to a step by step procedure to download POIs, icons and sounds? I'm a bit of a dummy with the computer.
Once installed, how can I check if my GPS has it ( short of taking a trip)?
Thanks for your patience.
file
ok the file I downloaded is called
RestAreasCombined(ver[1].c)
so do i rename the sound file
RestAreasCombined(ver[1].c).mp3
or
RestAreasCombined.mp3
Thanks.........Cy
POI are downloaded by
POI are downloaded by clicking on the file that you need and it will ask you where to save it.
Your GPS should have a POI installer and this should be automatic for you by following the request the program ask you.
Icon and sounds are right click and save to file.
Cheers
OK
That is how you do it BUT I would remove the [1] from the name as that will create a speed proximity alert at 1 mph.
Adding numbers in the file name adds other little problems.
Just name them:
RestAreasCombined(ver.c).csv
RestAreasCombined(ver.c).bmp
RestAreasCombined(ver.c).mp3
or even shorten name even further to like:
RAC.csv
RAC.bmp
RAC.mp3
Whatever works for you !
Good Luck

how to test
ok if things went well other than driving from Canada into the USA how do I know if the rest areas stuff all works?
Sorry, You Have To Drive The Route
Sorry, you will have to drive from Canada to the US to test the files!!
Just kidding. You can simulate a route by turning off the satellite antenna. On the 6xx series you do this simply by pushing the antenna to the closed position. Then select a location two or three miles away from a rest area, and select "Set Location". The GPS will now think this is your starting location. Then select a destination beyond the rest area and press GO, and the GPS will simulate driving the route.
If the POI's were loaded successfully, you will receive an alert as the simulation approaches the rest area.

I will have to try that. I guess I never read the manual that far to try a simulation like that.
Thanks for the tip.

sorry i did name them all
rac.csv
rac.bmp
rac.mp3
do i exchange the externtions to csv on all of them?
.
No. Don't do that.
Have you double checked that you don't have double file extensions on your MP3 file (ie rac.mp3.mp3) which would cause the sounds not to work.
In the file browser on your computer, be sure that the settings are NOT set to HIDE file extensions.
