Garmin Nuvi 255W vs 260W

I can't decide to buy a Garmin Nuvi 255W or 260W which is better?

Tough Choice

Have you done a comparison using the Garmin web site?

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134

Do you need the FM traffic, Where Am I function, larger number of waypoints, battery life....it all factors in smile

I know it's not an easy choice, hope this helps a little.

Yes, it take months from

Yes, it take months from Tomtom, Navigon Megellan to garmin.

Now Need more time to narrow which garmin is fit me the best confused

Who knows what you will get!

I just received a New Replacement nuvi 260W from Garmin. I was shocked to find out when I booted it for the first time it has been loaded with 255W Software. I am not sure what to think of the situation. The 255W Software has some nice additions but I am not sure it is as Accurate as the 260W was that I had previously. Maybe Garmin is in the process of doing away with the 260W. I have read post saying they are to be discontinued.

Thanks

My 260W is a 255W as well

I purchased a 260W and was pleasantly surprised that it had the 255W software.

The "where am I" function

The "where am I" function was the reason I went with the 255W. I use this mainly on the motorcycle; no gas gauge, just a light. I can always find fuel (or a hospital) based on my location. Good luck.

I purchased a Nuvi 255W

It seems to me that Garmin (and Others) will introduce products, allow them to thrive, and then let them fade away. A fancy phrase for this is "product life cycle."

I believe this is true of the 260W which is much older than the 255W (which was released in July). I wouldn't be surprised to see the 260W start to disappear from vendor shelves, nor would I be surprised if the 260W were discontinued. I don't have insider information, however, I did buy an iQueM5 (and others) which did go though this cycle.

I'd expect faster chipsets from newer devices. I'd also expect that the algorithms to determine position to be tweaked for the newer device.

I'm not sure how one can determine the accuracy of two closely related devices without going into a lab setting. Perhaps one needs to answer the question, how accurate is accurate enough? As one who experienced +/- 100ft or more, todays +/- 10ft just doesn't seem to be that bad.

Regardless of what device you buy, it will be superseded by then next latest-and-greatest device. So enjoy whatever device you choose!

So make the plunge, join us as "we trudge the road of happy destiny."

255W

Hi
About six months ago I went with the 255W because it had a newer engine. I would be surprised to hear that the 260 could be made to work like a 255 unless it were a 265.

As others noted, check the feature diffs and see what you need. The comparison charts make this easy. But I agree with another poster that the xx5's will replace the xx0's. Does it make a huge difference. No.

I'd get the 255w to ensure

I'd get the 255w to ensure you get 255w software...I like my 205w so much more than the 200w I had...so go for the 2x5 series!

go with 260W

Don't listen to anyone telling you to buy a 255W over the 260W. I have no idea what the differences are but since I have a 260W, it has to be the better one. How much better? Just do the math and you will se that it is 5 better.

Garmin: Dezl 770 Nuvi 780, Nuvi 260W, GPSMAP 295, GPSMAP 396, GNC250-XL Magellan: Meridian Platinum, GPS-315 (first GPS in 1999)

255W

I own both and the 255W is the one to buy. It is faster has some new features . If you go to Garmin.com you will see the difference. I also feel the the 2x0 and 7x0 model will soon be discontinued, like the 3xx and the 6xx Nuvis. The 2x5 and the 7x5 are the newest. I think that the 255 came out in July 2008, and the 260, I have had since March 2008. Go with the newer model.

I just got a 255W...Its my 1st dashboard GPS (have a Legend as well) and I really am impressed with it. Trying to figure out how to download the red light camera stuff now...LoL.

I vote for the 255W instead of 260W

255W has speed limit indicator and acquires satellites quicker.
