Garmin International in denial

Nuvi 760 Locking Up
>
I just called Garmin about my 760 locking up and he (Joel) told me he had never heard of the problem before.
>
Sounds like Garmin is in denial about the issue.
>
I would like to see how many of you have this problem and reported it to garmin.
>
If all of you could post your unit type (i.e nuvi750, 760) and whom you spoke to on a list so it can be sent to Garmin to try to get an answer of why they are denying the issue exist.
>
I don't known how to set up a list on the site so if anyone knows I would like to know so one can be made to send to Garmin.

I'm just saying

Sometimes I have found that I made a mistake in one of the csv files, or as some have found they have a corrupt mp3 file. I'm not trying to imply that Garmin doesn't have a problem, but since some users do and others don't have issues and we can't say if you do x, then every time y will happen.

If you notice Mr. Hannah was able to find a problem with one of his files. Deleting that mp3 solved his problem.

In my line of work, I design something work a certain way. If a customer changes something beyond my intention it may no longer work. A corrupt file may be causing the Garmin to not work as intended. The Poi Loader does not verify a csv file to have correct data.

I know this may not what you want to hear, but from a service technician standpoint - this is what you need to do. In the past I have found that some poi's if not made correctly will cause a unit to act up. To accurately test if it is the unit or something you added to it, you will need to remove all custom poi's, mp3's and then see if the problem is still there. If it is, then it is a Garmin problem. If it is not, then start adding mp3's or pois and see if it then will show up again. You must make sure it is not a problem you brought on yourself before blaming Garmin and expect them to fix it.

If the POIs are constructed in accordance to their POI Loader help file instructions, what is their response then?

I think Garmin is too busy trying to fix all the problems with the 8XX series.
Maybe now that they recently came out with a FW update, for this model, they can now concentrate on the issues with the 7XX.

Did the unit work before!
That's a lot of changes.

I do have the Nuvi 880, and although I've used a GPS marine unit for years, I thought my problems were operator error and not the unit. I updated the software once before -- I took delivery of the 880 on July 15== and was surprised to see a second update hot on the heels of the last one. I'm very glad to see the list of FIXES, which I had no idea needed fixing, but will expect it to make a big difference in the speed of the whole navigation process. Now maybe it will act like a Garmin, and I'll be confident using it.

An update

Got an RMA from Garmin. Going to send it back tomorrow. Email response from Garmin was VERY GOOD. Not sure why some are saying it was so bad. If you have AOL and some free email accounts that may have been a problem because of the fact that they use oversized packets that aren't excepted by some older routers. Or, if you are using corporate email the response may have been filtered as spam. Anywho, that is a totally different forum. I'll let you all know how it goes with Garmin.

Changes from 2.90 to 3.0

But can't you get rid of the issue by rolling the firmware back?

In doing this, below is what would be introduced back into the unit - One has to take a look at what was fixed and decide if it is good to go back.

Changes made from version 2.90 to 3.00:
-Corrected issues with GPI files causing unit crashes
-Corrected the expiring MSN Direct stocks after 5 days instead of 3
-Corrected clipping at the beginning of voice instructions
-Corrected compatibility issue with some MSN Direct receivers
-Corrected issue with web favorites category display other types of points in MSN v2
-Corrected local events not removing some dates correctly in MSN v2
-Corrected GPI route display issues
-Corrected Text language disappearing when changing modes
-Corrected issue with Asian language support
-Corrected issue with not being able to access additional information about GPI point
-Corrected shutdown during postal code lookup

Any or all of these corrections could could cause the lockup issue. So to me the real issue is did the update actually fix the problem?

If the fixes were for .gpi files how can they now say they don't support them?

New 4.00 update for the 7xx

I tried the new update (4.00)to see if it fixed the problem with TourGuides.

I built a tourGuide at my home location, using MapSource. I loaded it into my 750.

After powering up and going to MAP MODE, I got the TourGuide alert. amd everything still worked .

NO FREEZE UP!!!!
NO PROBLEMS seen.........

You needed to role back to ver 2.90. will think about it .this is still all new to me only got this unit a few week a go.

Hopefully this will correct the lockup issues..

I just installed it to my 760, I took a small trip with version 2.90 installed, no problems but didn't plsy mp3's.... I'm still wondering if it's a combination of things causing the freezing/lockup...

8xx Update

The 3.10 update for the 8xx series is up and it around 59MB...pretty big. I hope it doesn't introduce the problems the 7xx Nuvis had.
