Can't Load Audio Alerts To Nuvi 650

I have loaded a number of .csv poi files to my Nuvi 650 with no problem. However I wanted to set audio alerts for red light cameras and am having a hard time. I have followed the instructions in previous posts, but can't seem to get the mp3 to load on the Nuvi. I have one folder set up as "Garmin POI's" and in it are 3 csv files and a mp3 file for red light alerts. I named the mp3 file the same as the red light csv file, but can't seem to get it over to the Nuvi. Can anyone help ?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

.

Are you saying that when you drive by (or simulate a route by) one of the redlight camera locations you aren't getting the Custom Alert?

Are you getting the default alert sound?

Did you triple check that you don't have double file extensions? Be sure that your file browser is not set to hide the file extensions.

Yes, when I simulate a route

Yes, when I simulate a route to a camera, I'm not getting the custom alert (mp3). I am getting the default sound. I'm not sure how to check re: double file extensions or that my browser is not set to hide the file extensions. Sorry- kinda dumb I guess. Any help help would really be appreciated.

.

Open the file browser on your computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click the View tab and scroll down and uncheck the box next to Hide extensions for known file types.

Then check the MP3 file to see if it has a double extension i.e., filename.mp3.mp3 which will cause the Custom Alert not to work.

Ok I've done all of that.

Ok I've done all of that. The box to check next to hide file extensions was not checked. None of the MP3's have double extensions on them. Anything else you can think of ?

Thanks so much for your help

.

Did you rename the alert and Custom POI files so that the names are EXACTLY the same?

Double check the spelling including spaces and underlines.

Yes everything is the same.

Yes everything is the same. My files are: cameras_redlight.csv
cameras_redlight.mp3

This is driving me crazy! Any other thoughts ?

Thanks,
Chris

Ok. How about trying to see if you can get the Custom Alert sounds with a different Custom POI file and a different MP3 file?

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the poi-factory...

It seems that you are doing everything right. As long as your .csv and .mp3 files are in the same folder, there's no reason why they shouldn't load properly.

Check the "settings" on your 650. Select the "Wrench" on the main screen, then check your "Proximity Points", "Volume" and "Navigation -> Attention Tone" settings.

Then select the "Speaker icon" on the main screen and select "Audio Output" and if it's on "FM Transmitter", change it to "Internal Speaker".

Other than that, when you upload the files to your 650, with the POI Loader, choose to load them "manually". Then you can "set the alert distance" for your files.

HTH (hope that helps)

Hello M-M & Tailspin,

I went ahead and imported a list of Sam's Club and an MP3 with an audio alert. Once again the csv file goes in with no problem, but no audio alerts. I checked all the things Tailspin said to check and everything was set correctly. I am totally puzzled.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Well it took all day, but I got it. I ended up creating a new folder and downloading the files again. This time I left the csv files named exactly as they downloaded, and renamed the mp3 files to correspond with the csv's. Worked like a charm. Thanks for everyones help.

Excellent. Glad you stuck with it.

Hi Chris,

After I sent my post, I thought about the "cameras_redlight.csv" file you were talking about and I thought to myself..."hmmm, that POI was originally named redlight_cameras.csv...I wonder if reversing the name of that poi, was causing the problem"

Anyway, I'm happy it's working properly...

Tailspin

P.S. Now that you know that it works, I'd love to know if you changed the name of the "redlight_cameras.csv" and redlight_cameras.mp3, back to "cameras_redlight.csv" and "cameras_redlight.mp3" and tried loading them with the POI Loader, could you reproduce the original problem? If so, then you'll know it was the file name that caused it. On the other hand, if it loads with the poi file name reversed, then that wasn't the cause of the problem.

Tailspin, Yes I think

Tailspin,

Yes I think reversing the name of the original POI was the problem. I loaded the speed cameras and rest areas along with audio alerts with no problem. So I guess that the original POI shouldn't be renamed only the audio file that you're trying to attach to it. I didn't try to duplicate the problem, because I was growing weary of the whole process. But I'm pretty sure that was it.

Thanks again to you and Motorcycle Mama for your help.

I just checked this (using POILoader V2.5.2, for PC).
The position of the keyword redlight in the filename did not affect the outcome.

Both "redlight_cameras" and "cameras_redlight" created identical (working) output...
