Need louder speakers for bluetooth on 360

Driving down the freeway with my Nuvi 360 I have a hard time with the bluetooth being not loud enough. I noticed that if I put in a headphone jack the instructions and tones come through the headphones. So my thought is trying an external speaker. has anyone else tried that.

I measured the o/p of the Nüvi 310 (same hardware) @ 80dBspl (measured @ 1metre). It's not enough, is it? sad

External speakers need to be of the powered variety, since the headphone jack seems to be fed through a 4Ω resistor.

ditto on 660

I find I have the same issue with the 660. In a way, I wish I had gotten the 650 because like anyone else, hate paying for something I can't use!

My other car has Bluetooth built in, and that works fantastically well. I've tried both a Bluetooth headset and the nuvi 660 and neither seems to cut the mustard to overcome road noise.

Suggestions I've gotten from officemates is to try a headset that goes into the ear...

I Just Tried Something

You should have an aux out on your gps.
Do you have an aux in on your radio, or do you have a cassette player in the radio?
If you have an aux in on the radio then you should be able to go from the out to the in with a patch cable.
If you have the cassette then you have to buy a cassette adapter that does about the same thing.
If you don't have either, I believe you could take it to a radio installer shop and see what they can do for you.
It would be like hooking up and ipod.
I just tried it on the motorcycle and I could hear the voice through the radio speakers. I'm going to give it a spin and see how it works.
But if you're speaking, how will the road noise be to the person on the other end of the line?

Yep an AUX Jack

My car has an AUX jack. It's a 3.5mm retactable jack on both ends. I use it to play music from my MP3 player. I got mine from eBay for 5.00. It connected to the device's headphone jack. It's likely to be a 3.5mm jack.

Radio

I use my 760 with a cassette adapter (old stereo without an aux port) and the bluetooth is plenty loud when it's coming through the stereo. smile

How about...

Couldnt you use a FM wireless tuner and get it off the radio that way?..

Humm then if it strong maybe you can get another car to get the info so when your driving together everyone will know how to get there! (I know those fm tuners (or recevers, or whatever you call them) are not strong to do that.. but still would be cool if they could!

Bluetooth and FM = BAD Idea

If you use it with the FM receiver you are taking the chance that someone in a car next to you will be hearing your phone conversation.....

All great suggustions

But I do not have a cassette player or an input for my stereo, I think Ill try an 8 ohm speaker that I had used for an Amateur radio installation it isn't much louder but I can direct it at me instead of the windshield. If that doesn't work I will go with the amplified one. Radio shack has a tiny one made for mp3 players that use 2AA batt and I think would fit in the beanbag mount at least then I could dispense with the stereo-mono adapter jack and not so many wires.

speaker location

Just be sure you don't put the speaker on the same side of the Nuvi as the mic (lower left corner).

I ended up using the headphone jack on the Nuvi to the Aux port on my car stereo for output and getting an external mic for input.

Also, look on this site for the hack to increase the volume of your TTS file. Search for keywords like: "MP3 volume loud, nav volume soft"; etc...

This hack will try to equalize the levels between the modes.

Interesting

As I said in a previous post, I tested the nuvi 760 and I could hear the directions voice through the radio speakers with a patch cord going from the gps to the radio.
Today I tested the nuvi 650 and I couldn't get the directions voice through the speakers.
With the 650 the format display on the front of the radio was also different.
It read "CD" and if I played a mp3 it came through the speakers without a problem but still no voice or no attention tune.
I just checked the garmin site and both were listed as audio out.
I need to send and email to tech support to find the differences.

Bluetooth is not very audible

I just purchased a 760 and paired my phone to it.People could not hear me nor I could barley hear them. I purchased a Garmin microphone,Ran the Mic up panel and stuck it to the visor. Next I used my Ipod cord to my auxiliary input and both conversations are great.I used the FM modulator and it works well however you have to change the channels once in a while to have a good conversation.
