Windshield Mount Broken

My wife was taking her mount off the windshield and the rubber piece that is between the plastic mount and the glass came off. Her mount is about 9 months old. Everyone says that Garmin's customer service is good. Does anyone have any experience with Garmin replacing mounts?

I've used this as an opportunity to buy a beanbag dashboard mount (since I've been meaning to get one) and given her my windshield mount in the meantime.

Yes, they are very good

Yes, they are very good about that. The older designs - Streetpilot's in particular are notorious for leaving part of the suction cups stuck to the windshield. I've had them replace mine twice for that. All I did was call and tell them what happened and they took care of me right away FOC.

They're also replacing a newer style one for me as well. The ball sockets have a tendancy to loosen up more than I like on the Nuvi's.

Say "Bye Bye" to the Windshield Mount

After you get the beanbag mount, you'll wish you'd never bothered with the windshield mounts in the first place. Maybe you can save on shipping if you order two of them.

why would you Say "Bye Bye" to the Windshield Mount

I have both, I prefer the windshield mount myself.
You have to trunk the bean bag when you leave the car.

Beanbag mount

The beanbag mount rocks! It never moves..unless you hit a curve doing about 90mph..then it slides just a little.

The windshield mount on my wife's C320 had that bad rubber problem where it leaves some of the suction cup on the glass when you remove it after being on the glass for a while. Garmin customer service offered to replace it at no charge for either a new suction cup mount (with improved rubber) or a beanbag mount, our choice.

The beanbag mount has worked out very well, and has the added benefit (at least on her car) of bringing the GPS closer to the driver - a big help for aging eyes. It seems very secure, and doesn't slide around at all.

The beanbag is easy to hide if you're parking in an iffy location. And I've read that thieves will break into a car assuming there's a GPS hidden inside if they see the telltale ringmark on the glass you get when you use a suction cup mount.

Everyday is a GREAT day :)

gps mount

Save time and agravation; scrap the window marking suction cup and buy the bean bag mount! I have three mounts including the "spider" legged mount and the bean bag beats all. Just pick it up when you stop and slide it under your seat. No teltale sign you have a gps on board.

Beanbag mount

Garmin replaced the windshield mount on my 650, no problems. I use the beanbag mount, from Amazon about $15. It works great and as said above you can put the whole thing with the GPS attached under the seat. It has never moved on the dash during turns or sudden stops.

Beanbag Mount

It's too bad I needed a mount immediately or I could have gotten one off of Amazon also. I ended up buying one from Circuit City and it cost me about $40. After using the beanbag mount for a while now, I must say that it seems to work very well.

Windshield Mount

I have been using my NUVI since Father's Day and at least once every few days the plastic mount falls off the windshield. I am not sure if it has something to do with the heat here in Arizona and Nevada, but the black suction material is clean and so is the windshield.
I think I will have to break down and purchase a bean bag mount also because the NUVI falling off while I am driving has become more of a hazard than a nuisance.

Vent mount

Just a word to support using a vent mount. I have one that works well and is very unobtrusive. It clips onto the louvers of the vent and holds well. I like it because it's small and blends into the dash, so it doesn't readily advertise that I have a gps in the car. The one down side is it does obstruct the airflow a little bit. I bought it on ebay for less than five bucks.
Good luck!

Love my vent

Loving my vent mount. It's not putting a strain on the vents because it has a "third arm" to keep the pressure off the top 2 arms.

Another vote for the Vent Mount

I bought mine from Semsons. Extremely satisfied with it. Here's the link:

They are having Free Shipping on it right now. So total cost is $9.99.

There is only one GPS mount...

...and it's the beanbag.

Aside from being rock-solid (the GPS unit truly does not move!!!), the beanbag's sheer portability over other mounts makes it head and shoulders above the rest. I love the convenience and ease of moving it anywhere on the dashboard, or off the dashboard, in cases where I need a passenger to key in something for me. And being high up on the dash, I don't really need to take my eyes off the road too much. And it leaves no footprint, no scratch, no evidence of ever being there. And my vent's airflow is not affected in any way!! smile)

I am so far happy with vent

I am so far happy with vent mount from ebay. If it gets too flimsy, bean bag it is next. Not a big fan of windshield mount as I have to reach too far to adjust anything and can't see anything from the glare from the sun.

Yes...

And this is why I have the bean bag mount..but I am about to start traveling again and it's much easier to travel with it than say the bean bag...
