Chit Chat Thread for the week of August 04, 2008

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Yeah, the Rays are holding strong and playing well at home. It's not good for a Sox fan here, but gotta give the Rays their credit! They're still going strong and doesn't look like they are losing any stride.

In their short 10 years of life, they have finished in last place evey year except 2004 and have never made it to the playoffs. I'm not greedy, I would just like to see them make it into the post-season for the first time.

Although, I'm still waiting for the wheels to come off.

Since it's clear the Os won't contend again this year, I'm happy to root for the Rays. Anyone who takes out the Yankees is fine with me smile

Don't count the Yanks out just yet. Theres still a lot of ball to be played. Although the way things are looking now, i doubt we will make the playoffs this year. Oh well 13 years in a row was a good run.

Tropical Storm

Looks like we lucked out on this one. 65MPH winds as it hits.

Death and taxes.....

HA.... Then I'm probably going to die any time now.

Two years ago I did some "side business" for a person, and when tax time came I waited for all my paper work, and nothing came in from the "side work" (i.e. 1099-MISC), so I guess he did it all under the table. SO I was like COOL, and filed my taxes appropriately. (I know, I should've reported it to begin with).
Well 2 weeks before April 15th, all of a sudden, what shows up, but a 1099-MISC. I was torqued, but I filed an ammended return right before the deadline. Well, 8 months later, what shows up but a certified letter from the IRS saying I'm going to be audited. I was like WTH??!!! So, I called the IRS waited on hold for 2 hours, and when I talked to the person, they said I didn't report those wages, and I said "I filed an ammended return, did you get it?? *Silence*, *crickets*... Oh, yea we got it, but fax it to us right now so we make sure we've got it all. So, luckily I had a fax in the house, and faxed over the 20 or so pages of ammended return, and they put us on hold while they looked it over and said, OH, everything's fine now, don't worry about the audit. We don't need to do it now.

So, I expect the Grim Reaper to show up at any moment....*Ding-Ding*...... crap.

On Saturday I offered my wife a simple plan to make the day different for the kids (2.5 and 5.5) and we took a long bus ride to a somewhat local mall. By car it is 20 minutes but by bus was about an hour. The kids have been on the (LI) railroad but not on a City bus (but on school buses). We hadn't been to a mall in such a long time because it usually isn't too much fun with little kids.

The little diversion and change of venue, as subdued as I anticipated it would be turned out to be an amazingly enjoyable day for all of us.

A Quick Check for Alzheimer's

A Quick Check for Alzheimer's

The following was developed as a mental age assessment by the School of Psychiatry at Harvard University. Take your time and see if you can read each line aloud without a mistake. The average person over 40 years of age cannot do it!

1. This is this cat.
2. This is is cat.
3. This is how cat.
4. This is to cat.
5. This is keep cat.
6. This is an cat.
7. This is old cat.
8. This is fart cat.
9. This is busy cat.
10. This is for cat.
11. This is forty cat.
12. This is seconds cat.

Now go back and read the third word in each line from the top down and
I betcha' you cannot resist passing it on.

Have a great day.

Crazy storms last night

Those were some strong storms that came through Chicago last night. I was afraid the tree in the backyard was going to come in through the window!

Fortunately, we came through pretty much unscathed -- and with our electricity which is not the case for some 220,000 who might be out of power for the coming days ( http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-chicago-weather... ).

Retire, not retire, retire, not retire. PICK ONE!!!!

If you're even thinking of coming back, then you're NOT retiring, but taking a vacation. And to be truly retired, you should have to be GONE for one FULL SEASON. No talks with the league, owners, teams, no showing up to training, practice, scrims, meetings, or taking ANYTHING from them.
