msn transmit directly to GPS

I set up my MSNDirect & LiveID

I have the 3 month trial of MSNDirect which came with my Nuvi 880 Garmin. The MSN antenna is builtin to the cigarette plug cord on the 880.

The page sort of leaves me scratching my head as to who were they talking to....but I pull this out of it:

"If the user has a compatible navigation device associated with their account, their service is active, and they have not reached their daily quota (MSN Direct will only deliver 20 locations per day for a user identified by a Windows Live ID), show a coverage map of their Primary Region and confirm that region is where the device is currently located. The user may accept the Primary Region or pick a different region in which to send the messages (the messages will be sent in the Primary Region as well). "

I have my 880 associated with the MSNDirect account.
Their account is active. I did not know there was a 20 location limit per day. I do have a Windows Live ID, which I activated in order to use the service. I must confirm each time I visit them that I am where I originally stated; they mean a region not a specific address. When I go south, I will have to change my base service area.

Do you have the MSNDirect service? I'd be interested in your comments, because I have not decided to keep or trash it yet.

Why am I not surprised! The Real Time Traffic service does not have any of these limitations.

Can you elaborate on this 20 location limit. I am not sure what this means.
Thanks

MSN Direct

It’s only been a month and MSN Direct has been on the money as far as traffic goes here in NYC and New Jersey. I keep listening to the traffic reports on the radio to compare the info with MSN and seams’ okay. I’m pretty happy with it for now.

interesting

interesting

20 Locations Per Day

I read it as 20 locations sent to the unit per day,. That, in addition to the 6 million in there already, my POI files, and my favorites, that is all that I need. I think.

Once you send the location to the unit (Nick?), does it get retained in the unit as a favorite ??

Pardon me, I still have a 680.

MSN vs. AM-radio -- which updates traffic faster?

Dear Bandaid,

When leaving town (NYC) or returning, I tune to WINS on the ones, WCBS on the eights (except when a baseball game is on there), and Blumberg Radio on the fives (which seems to be have the most details on the traffic in NJ). I am curious as to how quickly MSN updates their information compared with these three radio stations in the NYC area. Although my GPSr is not equipped with traffic information, I would like to know for future reference.

Just quoting from them....

Actually, I don't know either. I think it means if you get 20 viapoints or addresses to send to your GPS, you've made your daily quota.

I thought they did routes, but we may only be able to send positions, and let the Garmin do the routing.

What is your impression?

Timeliness of any updating....

I don't know about the traffic. They don't say.
BUT, they do state that STOCK QUOTES have a 20 MINUTE DELAY. I found that on my Garmin, not online.

Dear Bandaid,

Thank you. I appreciate it.

As many of us New Yorkers keep the traffic numbers for "ten-ten" WINS (877-466-1010) and WCBS "eighty-eight" (212-975-8888) in our mobiles so that we can report problems and clearances, I imagined that the radio might have faster updates. I could be wrong.
