Which to replace my old 330C the 670 - 680 or 760

I have a 760 now and the partner's old 330C finally bit the big one. So it is purchase time. The 670/680/760 are all priced within $20 of each other (unless there is a huge sale somewhere) and one of the features she needs is Street Names spoken and Bluetooth.

So I have reduced the choice to the three units above. The 600 series has WAAS and the 760 does multiple roots. She is located in Winnipeg MB and she does the occassional trip to Thunder Bay ON, Minneappolis MN, Grand Forks ND and Fargo ND. Any other thoughts/comments?

Thanks!

I would do the 760. It has done well for me since last Christmas.

If Bluetooth isn't that big of a deal, maybe the 750. I use my bluetooth on occasions for convenience, but I still prefer my bluetooth headset.

Bluetooth is mandatory.

Bluetooth is mandatory.

new gps

I replaced by c340 with the 660. I like the 660, but wish I had gone for the 700 series. At the time it was a lot more expensive. That was the resone for going with the 660. Last weekend I saw the 750 for under $300 at Sam's.

choices...choices

The 600 series have better battery life - 40% better than the 760.

The 760, has Where Am I and Garmin Locate features and the 600 series does not. I really like those two features.

The multi point routing also provides most direct routing through those points.

For only $20 difference the 760 would seem tome to be the no brainer for auto travel. If used away from a power source, the battery life could be a concern.

Let us know what you get.

I will go with Nuvi 670

The prices for Nuvi 660 and 670 are about equal. 670 has all the features that 660 has plus EU map. The EU map itself is worth $200.
Nuvi 760 is nice with a new design. However, it does not have an flip antena. So takes longer time to acquire signal than Nuvi 3** and Nuvi 6**.

BlueTooth thru the unit or thru FM Radio?

It was mandatory for me also. I have the Nuvi 880, for about 2 weeks. I've used the BT on voice only once to try it out. It was not at that time connecting through the FM transmitter in the car.

What I learned about that particular connection is, it is NOT PRIVATE. You'd have to use discretion in what your phone conversations include, because anyone nearby will get all of it loud and clear on their FM radio.

So I would not pair the phone to the Bluetooth in the unit if I was putting it in FM transmitter mode.

Maybe that isn't a problem on the lonely stretches of road in the Dakota hills, but around town it might be impractical. Like sitting in your car talking to your doctor or your banker....not good.

That said, my Blackberry 8300 works on speakerphone too.

EDIT: What model? For me, it would be the one with the MOST BELLS AND WHISTLES.

760 acquisition is fine

I don't really notice any significant difference in acquisition time between my Nuvi 350 and 760. I think the flip out antenna of the 350 is a little more sensitive and is a little more accurate, though. Seems to be about 3-5 feet more accurate. If that makes a difference between getting lost or getting there, I probably shouldn't be driving anyway. grin

Seriously, the 760 does not acquire sats as easily when inside my house. I suspect it does not deal with weaker signals as well as the 350. So it's been a real problem when trying to find the kitchen when I want a snack. I have yet to have been able to compare the two in really difficult terrain, like downtown Chicago.

But as far as getting in my car and powering up, it gets the sat signals as fast as the 350 did.

Kitchen? What about WASHROOMS???!!!!!

Does it find the washrooms easily or is it the same issue as the kitchen???? lol

Found the 760 at $399 at a Canadian authorized dealer and was $699 at Best Buy Canada. Did the price match and 10% of the difference and bought the 760 for $369 Canadian.

Thanks for the help!!!! Nice to have a great support community.

Best decision!

Good job! I bought my 760 for $380 in May from Costco online, when it was put on sale. Really happy with it.

You may want to hold off upgrading the 760 to ver 3.1 firmware. Search the Garmin forum here for the issues found by users. I myself am still on v3.0.

760 hands down!

FWIW: I went through this with the 350. I went with the 760 as the 350 in now discontinued. It won't be long until the 6xx series is impacted. The features of the 760 far out way that of the 6xx series platform and I am quite pleased the my 760.

I paid 385 for mine at realdeal.com - no tax and free shipping - no hassles! Might be less now.

I couldn't get a proper URL from your description & given you are in the deep south it probably isn't a
Cdn site even if it worked.

Thanks just the same though, "it's the thought that counts."

Sorry not Canadian but from NYC. I don't have the correct url but it is close - I can post later if you like -

It comes up much less on other sites from when I purchased mine a few months ago.

BTW: I am originally from Ohio - only been here for just under 2 years.

No problem... thanks for the effort....

as a matter of fact I checked Amazon.com to compare to the Canadian price that was quoted. I'm a winter Texan and usually get this sort of thing while I've got a USA shipping address.

I'm still probably going to wait and buy after we go South but that was a good enough price that I'd consider buying it up here (down here actually) now.

Thanks again.....

Yeah, I was expecting a lot to get sent to the boneyard. A year or so ago, I wanted the StreetPilot 2730 I think it was, especially because it had Dead Reckoning built in, and it had XM radio too. I was all set to order, and then the model got the ax. It took about a year for me to decide to go with the new 8xx series.

They kept the 680 though - my guess it is because of a contractual agreement with the MSN Direct service.

I am looking for a GPS that

I am looking for a GPS that my mother can use. Her vision is good but I think the 4.3 inch option is the best choice.

The 670 and 750 are within $30 of each other.

The advantages of the 670 are that it has an AC Adapter, Bluetooth and the external antenna. The 670 has European Maps but I don't go to Europe with any regularity but even an outdated map is still somewhat helpful over nothing, if I went there.

However, the 750 screen is brighter and there is a supposed firmware upgrade that makes the sensitivity of the GPS higher than that of the 600 series. Have you found the firmware upgrade to truly increase the sensitivity?

I finally made my decision on the 670 since it cost less than the ones I was considering. I didn't want the MSN feature since that was bordering on making this GPS more of a PDA. As the reliability of the traffic data when I lived in DC was spotty, I was turned off by any 'external features'.
