hey i had my nuvi for a few months and the power crapped out on me, i did the soft boot or reset, it kinda worked for a while, but a week later it was out again.
I had to send it back, they didnt even repair it, they sent me back a refurb, but at least i got the free map update outta it when i registered the new model #.
it wasnt a faulty power switch, even if i plugged it into the cpu, or car, it would never light up, and with the switch it would never come on, and i know my battery never died, i never used it with battery power.
Garmin was fast was told 2 weeks, got a new one in a week.
i just had to call to get a # for the repair to send it in. they just ask some questions to try to troubleshoot over the phone, i just play along that it still dont work.
it was pretty annoying cuz at first the problem was intermittent, would hate to get stuck with it not workijng when you actually need it.
I havent heard of anyone else with this problem, when i checked for myself, so i guess its not common. good luck
I had just upgraded to maps 2009. I was told that the upgrade was free for my unit. I ordered the disk ($10.00 shipping) and updated my unit. Everything seemed to work fine for a week. I used it coming home one night and the next day nothing. Everything I tried didn't work. Sent an email to Garmin, and they gave me an RMA number to return the unit. I got a replacement delivered last Friday (18 July 08). The replacement has a lower serial number than the one I had. I have to call Garmin tomorrow with several questions mostly regarding warranty issues, etc. It apparently came preloaded with the 2009 update. I hope this unit doesn't guide me through some of the streets/roads that the original unit did. Some were pretty hard to navigate with an 08 GMC 3500HD CrewCab longbed dually with a 38' long 5th wheel camper. It is also a little over 12' high. LOL

Try plugging it to a power source.
Try doing a hard reset. Slide the power key to the left and hold it for at least 8 seconds.

Per the Nuvi 750 manual, try this: Slide the power key to the left and hold for 8 seconds... Then power the unit on.

That just happened to my
That just happened to my 760. It was out for 24 hours. The next day it turned on and worked fine. So, I carried it back and paid extra for the 780.
