Problems with 3.10

I was having random shut downs occur on my 760 after I updated to 3.10 that I never had occur before.

I just reverted to the 3.00 firmware version and all seems to be ok again. I have read other places on line where others experienced similar shut downs after updating.

Must be some bug in the 3.10 update!

Good thing I haven't updated yet. When I heard about the 3.10 update, we were planning two long road trips in the coming 3 weeks and so I postponed downloading the 3.10 firmware update. It's just my cautious nature coming to the fore of not messing with the "tried and true" before a big important event. So maybe I'll wait until 3.20 or when our big summer trips are over.

I noticed my 760 was also shutting down Intermittently......

Upgrade and roll back questions...

I've two questions:

First, how do you roll back to a previous version? Is it done on the GPS alone, or on the PC connected to the GPS? Can you pick which version to roll back to?

Second is hypothetical. Say you just bought a new nuvi with a 2.8 firmware version. Can you pick which version to upgrade to, say 3.0 instead of 3.10? I looked at the Garmin site and there's only 3.10 available for download. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

Thanks.

down load the proper version for you unit...

Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. Someone said this was mentioned in another thread but I missed that one...so I'm glad it was posted again.

Updates

For what it is worth, in my experience, it is best to only update if it has a fix for a problem you are having. I would also keep a copy of the older updates. Sometimes Garmin will fix one problem and create two new ones.

Update 3.10

I have no problems so far with the update on my Nuvi 760.

I've had 3.10 for about 4 days now... and today

It began to shut down intermittently. It also had screen freeze twice which forced me to reboot twice. I'm going to have to revert back to 3.00 I guess. This is on a Nuvi 770.

Garmin, I love your GPSr's and your tech support, but your software engineers are impressing me less and less over the last year and a half. It appears they do not test new updates much at all. I sure wish they'd get current issues worked out and stop making more and more units that have defective software. It almost seems like having so many competative units is causing you lots of growing pains. Just my two cents.

I think that is pretty sound advice.

I try to update only when absolutely necessary. Maybe that's why I'm still running 2.9. lol

Don't notice any difference with 3.1

I don't notice any difference with 3.1. We have observed several bugs with the 7xx series, but most of them were there in 3.0, too. The only one that I'm not sure if it existed prior to 3.1 is the "power up in range of a POI alert" bug. 3.1 did not fix any of the prior bugs and did not offer anything new, so why bother upgrading.
