I haven't decided whether I

I haven't decided whether I want verbal alerts, but the default bong-bong on the Nuvi 200 was too subtle. I opted for this higher pitched, though still pleasant, alternative:

Re: POI Alert MP3 Files...

The AT&T Labs "Text-to-Speech" website, allows you to create spoken sound files, in a variety of voices. The text input area, limits you to 300 characters.

http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php

It creates a .mov file, which you'd have to convert to an .mp3 or "mono" .wav file, with a sound utility, to use it on your GPS.

You can't just rename it, but with the SOX.exe download (search the forums for SOX) POILoader will convert these as it downloads them.

What pois do you want to be alerted to?

If it's not a poi with the word school, red-light, speed in the name you have to set the alert manually when you install it with poi-loader...

edit: see arrow http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6764

Hi brijen,

Have you set up the alerts on your unit? Tap on the wrench on the mail screen, then choose "Proximity Points", then "Alerts". Put a checkmark (√) in the "Custom POI's" selection.

In the main screen, click on the speaker (if there is a speaker icon on your unit) and choose "Audio Output" and choose "Internal Speaker", Since your unit doesn't have an "FM Transmitter", the Internal Speaker, should be your only choice.

As long as the "name" of the POI file and the name of the .mp3 and .bmp are the same, you're good to go. For example:
my_poi.csv
my_poi.mp3
my_poi.bmp

When you use the POI Loader to upload your POI's, use the "Manual Mode". That way, you can set the distance alerts for any or all of your POI's.

FYI - Although your unit doesn't have an FM Transmitter, you can plug-in a "cassette adapter" (providing you have a cassette player in your car) into the headphone jack on your unit . The difference between the "internal speaker" on your unit and the sound coming out of your "car speakers", is a 1000% improvement.

HTH (hope that helps)

I am a truck driver and none of the pilot store locations are on the interstate they are all on side roads so the gps doesnt recognize them as being on my route is thare a way for me to set it so it will let me know before i get to the exit? i apreciate all the help thus far and in the future

Wav alerts on Nuvi 200

I've been struggling with getting .wav alerts to work on my 200W. All I've been able to do is get a double "bong-bong" alert for certain locations. I've followed the Sox.exe route described in other threads but still no joy. I actually want to set a sound alert that has no sound. I want the proximity alert to flash across the screen but don't want the tone. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Hi surlyboy,

If you want a sound alert with no sound, create a .wav file with no sound and give it the same name as the poi file you're associating it with. If a file contains "GATSO," "mobile," "SPECS," "safety," "speed," or "camera in the file name, you'll get a visual alert on your unit, however, I don't think you get a "visual alert" on other poi files, not containing any of the aforementioned names.

As far as the sound goes:
If you're using .wav files on your unit, instead of .mp3 files, they have to be encoded "mono" and not "stereo". My .wav files are mono, 44100Hz and 16 bit.

As far as the alert goes:
In the manual mode of the POI Loader, you have to set the "alerts" on your POI's "every time" you load them. The alerts you previously set (in the manual mode) are overwritten, when you upload any POI's with the POI Loader.
