POI zip file

I am just getting started with POI files and enjoying it. I have successfully installed some in my Nuvi but now have seen one on bridges that is a zip file. Do I install that with the Garmin POI loader just like any other file or does it have to be unzipped (if that is the right terminology) first? As a senior citizen I am simply not up to date on things like this and need some hand holding!

You will need to unzip

You will need to unzip it.Most times just click on the zip file and it will open the file up.If not you should see note on left for extracting.

How would one create alerts

How would one create alerts with a file that was unzipped? I was successful doing it with a .csv file thanks to PaulATL...

Thanks in advance

Once it's unzipped

Once it's unzipped it'll likely be a csv or gpx file (prolly plus a sound or icon file) You would manipulate the unzipped files just as you would any other file of it's type.

Make sense?

I'm sorry

I don't understand what you're asking.

I want to set up an alert and set the distance, how would I do it with an unzipped file?

.

The same way as you do it for all the other files. As someone else posted, the unzipped file is a CSV or a GPX file. If you aren't seeing the file extensions, you need to change your Windows File Browser options to Show File Extensions (or Not hide the extensions).

Motorcycle Mama beat me to it

Thanks Motorcycle Mama.

A zipped file is just a file that has been compressed, or zipped up. Usually to make the file smaller and easier to upload and/or download. Sometimes just to contain several files that go together - like a gpx file and it's accompanying icon and/or mp3 files. Once you unzip it, you get the regular files. Treat them as if they had never been zipped.

Bad thing is that there are

Bad thing is that there are no speed cams/safety camersa listed in Wisconsin so I can't test it...sad

In terms of alerts, would I download a speed trap alert, alarm, or saftey camera alert? I have like 3 choices.
