760-Position Drifting

I bought a Nuvi 760 and since new (2 months old) it has never held a stopped position. It constantly drifts and spins. It shows the car icon pointing south, then west...then northeast then south. It shows speeds up to 3.5 mph and I'm not moving. I have used a 350 and a 650 and those never moved.

It's all up to date and gets satellite strength on all the bars with accuracy down to 14 feet. I thought it was lack of signal strength but now I'm at a loss. I'm ready to return it and just get a 350 and save the $175 difference to boot.

It is very frustrating when it says "please drive the highlighted route" and the car icon is changing directions before the car moves.

Anyone have this problem? A fix?

I've seen that on my first 350, my 660, and 750. And on various GPS apps on my Blackberry curve too. It's the nature of the beast.

760 Position Drifting

I have experienced the same "while stopped" position drifting/spinning with my 760. While I don't like it, I have ignored the problem simply because while I'm driving Nuvi shows the the car position and direction properly for the direction I'm traveling.

The turns are properly placed and announced. Routing is good and the stationary glitch is not enough for me to lose any sleep. While I class myself as a perfectionist, the jittery stopped glitch hasn't registered as needing correcting. Maybe I need to declassify myself.

Having said that, if I used the Nuvi in pedestrian mode, That would bug the Sh** out of me.

.

That's just how the system works. All units will be that way. You'll get used to it.

I am usually using "track

I am usually using "track up" instead of 3D mode. In that mode the map is stable and not jumping around. Although 3D is very cute it doesn't really provide the natural detail view of normal mapping ( and jumps all about). Just my opinion.........

Ok, that made me laugh!

Well, if that's the way they work...thanks to all for the replies. At least 'it ain't broke.'

I was about to say that my Magellan never has that problem......until I saw the part about 3D mode.

I never use 3D since I found out it doesn't display the POIs the same (or not at all). Looks to me like 3D is just glitz and is pretty useless for normal daily operation.

Interesting how different Mfg's models have similar "quirks".

I have had the same issue on the 760 as well.

750 drifting

My 750 does the same when stopped, but my main problem is when the Icon is not following the rout, or is pointing sideways on the road and 2 miles from where i'm. Garmin is working with me on the problem.

I had the same problem with my nuvi 350. But never , in fact, thought it as a problem.

I don't have this on my 760

I have a 760 and it only does that when the reception is poor. I'm baffled if it is telling you the accuracy is 14 feet. When mine will do that, the accuracy is showing as 30 feet or more, like when I'm inside the house.

One thing I have noticed is that my 760 is more aggressive with "snap to road" than my 350 is. And it is slower to give up and reposition to the correct position later. This shows up sometimes when I'm in a parking lot with a road on either side and it decides I'm on one of the roads when actually I'm 100 yards away in the parking lot. My 350 would figure that out and give up and put me in the middle of the empty map area faster than the 760 will.

Drift

I bought a 350 for my girlfriend and it moves as well but I agree that it happens most when the signal is weak. I kind of like this little 350...maybe the 760 will go back. Side by side, they give me the same directions where I've used them so far. I do like the big screen but I go more by audio directions and glance at the map on occasion. So many choices...

Just my observations... I

Just my observations...
I have a 350 and 660.
They have NEVER 'gone goofy'...

With one exception...and with regularity..
On spot..on one street all the time this point would always throw my nuvi into a stuntman's tailspin, rockford turn, or maybe a few 360's. (Would be fun to 'record' such route)...
Yet this always at the same place. Only explanation would be some kind of radio interference.

Yet as for regular use? Neither has ever had such a problem.

I have a Nuvi 750 and it will only do that when I am sitting in my driveway at home.
