StreetPilot 2730

Just purchased this unit - any thoughts from other owners? Tricks or tips? Thanks all.
Cheers, Micah

StreetPilot 2730

I have the 2720 and really like it, especially the bright, large screen. The only big diference is yours is Blue Tooth enabled and has XM Radio availability. Otherwise, the 2730 & 2720 have identical GPS features.

Be sure to login to the Garmin website and you will automatically be notified of any software updates that come out. Also, you will want to download their POI Loader software should you decide to input custom waypoints, redlight camera locations, etc.

Good luck!

StreetPilot 2730 Discontinued?

Just noticed that Garmin has discontinued the 2730! Anyone know why?

I also have a Garmin

I also have a Garmin StreetPilot 2730. I think it was discontinued because the 2820 probably has similar features, but who knows. I found this to be helpful:

It took me a few months to start using the MapSource software, but that is very helpful. I also ahve use POI Loader and downloaded a number of Custom POIs and have even created a few of my own.

No, the 2730 does NOT have Bluetooth. But it does have the XM capability and comes with the GXM30 XM antenna as a standard accessory.

It is the 2820 which has the Bluetooth. the 2820 has XM capability too, but does NOT come with the GXM30 XM radio antenna. It is an extra cost accessory which runs $200.

The other thing is that the 2730 has the FM transmitter built in so you can play the XM radio through your car radio. The 2830 does not have that feature.

The menu interface is also different between the 2730 and the 2820.

I have a 2730 and a 7500 and LOVE them. It's like cable TV and High Speed internet... once you have them you can't imagine living without them.

2730

Thanks for setting me strait on the differences Tim, but I'm still wondering why Garmin would discontinue the 2730 when it's a later and better model than the 2720 which is still available. Could it be because of the recent merger of Sirius and XM Radio? Maybe Garmin could not work out a deal that would allow them to continue satellite radio interface?

Skip,

I am at a complete loss to explain or understand why Garmin discontinued the 2730 as well. It was a very new model and was very up to date with all the new features. Perhaps they weren't making enough money on it since they included the GXM 30 XM antenna.

And to still keep the 2720 going is another mystery.

I just don't know. I have read on some other forums that the 2820 has had a lot of software problems, unlike the 2730.

As far as the best bang for your buck, it's hard to beat the deals on a 2730 some places right now.

Check out Costco with a price of $499 for the 2730.
