GPS Garmin in Dubai - help!!!

Hi everyone, HELP! I've just moved to Dubai and bought a Garmin nuvi (2007) but it keeps telling me to go in the wrong direction and sometimes even just stops directing me altogether and stays on the same picture/directions. I bought a lead to connect to the Garmin.com site, hoping to upload 2008 maps but I can't navigate it and just don't know what to do. Can anyone advise me?

At your service. First of all, it definitely seems like it is a location issue with the unit. When in doubt, reset the unit. This will give the whole unit a rebooting process that will reset the current status of the unit with a fresh slate. When the unit starts up, try to set the unit for the time zone your in, make sure to give the unit a chance to lock on your location. So go into this feature and make sure the satalites lock on you and let us know....
What Maps do you have installed?

You do have the Middle East maps installed right?
City Navigator Middle East coverage of Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar Oman, Saudi Arabia maps.
