Bad part of town

Got a Nuvi 660 which I loaned to my daughter for a trip from Orange County to downtown Los Angeles. The route it gave her coming home took her on surface streets through some parts of town I would not go through if given a choice. Is there any way to set up the Nuvi to avoid certain routes or areas?

Thanks for any help...

Dangerous area POI

We will not be posting this type of file at POI Factory. This is not a project that we can support.

Miss POI

Because, if there is anything we've learned in this post 9/11 world, it is better to risk people getting hurt or killed than dare possibly offend someone.

.

That comment is out of line and is a mischaracterization of this site.

agreed

Sometimes I feel it doesn't matter whether fastest route or shortest distance is selected, the GPS doesn't really know the best way to get somewhere. Now that's in a metro area, of course, where there are literally dozens of ways to go from pt. a to pt. b.

Last weekend my wife and I got to see some parts of N. Phila that we've not seen before. It was actually quite interesting in that we saw a really nice bldg. that was totally abandoned and boarded up. I looked it up online, and it was an apt. for the rich back in 1894, 10 stories which was tall back then, and all kinds of attn. to the details. When I showed my officemates, who have lived here all their lives, they had never seen that building before. There's no reason to pass by it...but the GPS took us that way and we let it...

Excuuuuuuse me!

I didn't say anything about this site. That was a comment on life in general.

.

But you quoted what Miss POI said about this site not hosting that type of file so it becomes a comment against the site.

I Agree, he made a

I Agree, he made a generalization. You can't say anything anymore, ANYWHERE (Not talking about the site) without offending someone. He's got a valid point, in that respect.

Maybe that issue should be discussed in the Political thread going on right now? Seems like an appropriate place to discuss political BS. mrgreen

Who decides?

And who decides which areas are bad? High crime rate? High drug use? High percentage of minorities?

The criminals?

"Bad Areas"

When my wife an I were looking for a new house we did a LOT of research on the areas that we could afford as well as the areas that we would feel "reasonably" safe in. We were able to locate the crime statistics of certain areas by going to the county police website. The information was open source and assisted us in making an informed decision.
If I were to feel so compelled as to create a GPSr useable file of this type, it would be for my (or my familys) use only.

I can certainly understand

I can certainly understand that Miss POI. It is interesting to discuss though. As always, each of us can do as we wish with each of our own units understanding that these data are always controversial and could indeed lead to liabilities as pointed out in the thread.
